I went to see this. It was amazing! I suppose I like it better because I’ve played the game, but it was easier to understand than traditional kabuki. I got moved several times during the play 🥲🥺 The arrangements of the soundtrack were amazing too, with live performance of shamisen players and singers (they appear on stage!) Worth watching!!! 🎉🎉🎉

I admit I don't story wise, but I do love these collaborations with current popular media and kabuki. After all, this is how was viewed when it started, it was the theatre for the non-noble citizenry of the emerging urban centers! It was and is flashy and introduced many stage devices to surprise audiences. For current audiences it just seems less so because we are used to movies, TV and video games. That's not to say I don't want them to keep doing old productions, but these and original productions will introduce Kabuki to new audiences as they keep its spirit alive.

I love the Ennosuke line because they are innovators, I have no problem with adapting Kabuki to modern times. This adaptation is just cringey.

江戸時代に女性の役者もいたことは事実ですが、男性と女性が一緒に演じることは禁じられていました。つまり女役者は女だけの一座を作り、そこでは男役を女性が演じたのです。今の日本にも女性だけの劇団がありますよ。 個人的に伝統芸能に性差別がどうこうというのは馬鹿げていると思いますね。私は日本人の女性ですが、女性の歌舞伎役者がいないからといって差別されているとは感じません。女優の演技が見たければ他でいくらでも見られます。歌舞伎はこれでいいのです。
