Kawaakari Academy….A new beginning, new students, new teachers, a fresh start. At least that was what Samu was looking for.
He spent many years alone, fighting to make it through until he was old enough to attend Kawaakari, a glimmer of hope and opportunity he had been waiting for. “Breathe...you can do this…..just don’t shift…..”
He took his first steps into the academy courtyard , which was bustling with other excited first years exploring the grounds on orientation day.
“WATCH OUT !!!”
Samu looked to his left but it was too late, a stray spell from an overeager freshman crashed right into him, causing him to pass out.
Slow to wake, he arose to the whispers, the gasps and the occasional snickers of his classmates. “It’s over” he thought, “they know my secret….”
His blue scales shone brightly in the sunlight and he sat ashamed having been an outsider. Where he had come from, Reptilians were not a welcome species.
Memories of past bullying and the beratement from his peers began to flood back, freezing him in place as he curled up on the ground.
Suddenly, large screams of excitement and fangirling erupted from the distance. They grew louder, and closer to Samu as the footsteps stopped, what was going on?
“Hey, do you need a hand?”
Samu looked up, and to his complete surprise, a beautiful girl stood above him with her hands stretched out.
Moreover, her pangolin scales were out proudly for all to see.
It was Ruby, a well-known fashion influencer for students and amazingly she was right above him, not just a cut-out from the advertisements he had saved for himself.
“Let’s go, I’ve got a place you’re gonna want to see!” Ruby smiled gently and took Samu’s hand as they fled the crowds together. Soon he found himself in a classroom in the attic, with several other scaled students. Ruby opened the curtains and the sunlight revealed each student in magnificent form.
Beautiful varieties in reds, greens, purple, the mere sight brought tears to his eyes. “Welcome to Kawaakari, Samu. And if you’d like, to our VYPER family.”
Ruby introduced each member, and soon the room was filled with laughter and pure camaraderie.
No longer did he have to suffer alone or hold back his true self. He and the VYPER crew spent every hour out of class together. And little by little, the darkness that took over his heart and that had isolated him began to lift. He even began to only partially shift, showing bits and pieces of himself, and a huge weight had been lifted. This was a new start, a fresh one. One where the fear and ignorance of the past was chipped away, and all freshman would become close by the end.
“This is right, this is home.”

I am so proud of everyone! I love how everything came together! The visuals are BEAUTIFUL! I wasn't sure how it would all turn out when you asked if I was cool with being a lizardboi, but I LOVE seeing how we were all re-imagined with this and the universe that was created along with it!
