Kacha - thank you for the information. I had wondered about the mineral spirits last week. Watched the entire video even though I knew how it would end and there was a moment when I started to really appreciate your attention to the smallest details which are overlooked by most others. You highlighted the little break in the door. I was sipping my coffee and had to gulp it fast and holler "yes Kacha - you are an artist." You see the big picture in the smaller details and you get into the zone of working and don't stop until you have addressed each one, no matter if they can be seen easily or hardly at all. Hey Kacha! Spent all evening relaxing , having some wine and re-watching some of your earlier videos. This technique looks so fun. I typically use water based Dixie Belle wax, but I do have some Jolie wax and really want to try this softening with mineral spirits. Question... was there still enough wax remaining after the mineral spirits for the piece to be sealed? BTW in the original video, you made me homesick for mountains and rivers and walks through the Fall leaves. Loved it!

You want to use a wax made for Chalk Paint or Furniture, but yeah, any brand will work!

All you need to do with Chalk Paint is a good cleaning!

Beautiful. I just completed a buffet with this technique. It's gorgeous! However, do we need to worry about using was on top? Is it true that people who use these pieces need to keep reapplying the wax? To polycrylic, wax, or seal tops...that is the question?

You should be ok with wax. You want to wait at least 21 days so it can cure before putting things on it. You wont need to re wax for a while unless its going to be used a lot! If it will be heavy use you can go with poly, but it might yellow the color over time!

Kat actually under it. You need to clear wax before using a black (decorative) wax. Clear wax afterwards will help move it around or remove some!

It's not necessary to sand but it's ok if you want to!

My question is, Why do you use the mineral spirits? It looks like you are just wiping the wax off in the centers of your panels. Why even dark wax there at all if you are going to wipe it all back? Why not just black wax around the edges or highlights and then blend it well? Thank you for a great video!

This look can only be achieved this way. There is still traces of the wax. It is very subtle and cannot be done by just remove it with clear or using black wax without mineral spirits! When you wipe it softly it does not wipe off all the wax!

Why don’t you remove the drawers/doors when painting? When you open the cabinet, you’ll see the brown. Seems like you could have done a more thorough job

Pretty Buffet, but I feel there's just way to much applying and wiping off. Looks like it took hours. You can achieve this same look by just applying the light wax first, letting it dry, then applying the dark wax where you want it and buffing it out with some of the clear wax. You'd be totally wasting alot of expensive product for nothing.
