This is a song played at funerals on my side of the family for many years. George Bennard (who wrote it) died the year I was born (1958) & I must have heard many versions, but the one I want at my funeral is from Al Green its beautiful & soulful & given depth by him but this version I have just heard on here is my next favourite. This song has special meaning to me as my great uncle Ed Mieras was a friend of the author George Bennard....On December 29, 1912, Reverend George Bennard and his song leader, Reverend Edward E. Mieras, began a series of evangelistic meetings in the Sturgeon Bay Friends Church. These soul stirring meetings continued on until the final night of January 12, 1913. It was on this last night that the hymn, “The Old Rugged Cross,” was first sung in public.

I meant to go back and find where you first shared the link and thank you, but I got distracted. I think I closed the KZbin tab by mistake that I had left open so I could just go back there directly. I know, bad excuse. I'm sorry. Thank you so much - I loved it! You know what though? I don't know how long ago that recording was made, but you have gotten even better with pitch and pronunciation. I imagine most people wouldn't notice, but I am very "hearing" oriented and music is so important to me. You nailed this one! (oops, no pun intended) I have a passion for the old traditional hymns (so much scriptural truths in them) and you certainly are doing your part to keep them alive.
