think that estima lock can be nasty for kades attempt also hard to say for sure how pressure tommy was creating with his heel hook as kade was rolling I would expect around 1:36 it was at its worst, if the criteria is on legitmate submissions attempts its close, then after that what do the score more highly positional advantage which I would give to kade or attempting more submissions which I would give to tommy .

Kade was the one pressing and on the offence, nullified all submissions. I give him the win, while Langaker displayed great defence and nullified all his passing attempt and sub. Just in my opinion being on attack is better than being on defence but some would argue the other way. I prefer having a stronger defence than an attack

@philippinepalestra Жыл бұрын
Aggressively attempting to pass the guard > defending the guard well. And the operational word here is "defending," and too much of it is being "defensive," which we can easily associate with "passivity." The guard game is interesting, and needless to say, you can submit opponents from that position, but don't fetishize it: most grappling sports still prioritize takedowns and top control. (In short, Kade rightfully earned the win here.)
@magnusstahl Жыл бұрын
i mean sure, but why then have a points system that rewards submission attempts ? the point that Kade got was even super sketchy, anyone can slap on an estima lock like that
@philippinepalestra Жыл бұрын
@@magnusstahl All I can say is, a tap-out is crystal clear (most of the time, that is). But a near-submission? How near (or far) is it in millimeters, etc.? It's a grey area, I believe, even for the sharpest and most seasoned referee -- and the ref's no slouch here.

Seeing all this leg pasta makes me want to see some more gi grappling instead. A rule set like a kosen judo team match would be awesome. The ruleset is like BJJ but shorter matches, the winner stays in and you can win by pinning your opponent. Very exciting for spectator and competitors.

@MCHiphopotamus Жыл бұрын
That's your take. I saw Langaker very confident in his ability to defend the pass and not having his guard passed. He controlled Ruo's aggression fairly easily and had the only tight submission attempt (it was heel hook attempt, not a leg lock).

In the case where both figthers are still standing till the end, the number of successful submission attempts will be counted as points. In One, Agression also plays a part. Even though Langaker have great submission defense, Rudtolo was clearly the dominant figther. Also, this was a title fight. You need to either submit the Champion or have clear significant advantage to get the belt. Defending does not mean anything as a challenger.
@christianstava3757 Жыл бұрын
@@jonathanjuliman5628 dominant? is that just being on top? Its not MMA its BJJ. You have limited attacks from top. especially when you cant even pass the guard. Tommy had by far the most dangerous submissions. Kade just had some panic attacks for getting his points. no where near a finish.

I have absolutely no idea whether or not you actually know BJJ, but you seem to misunderstand Guard play transition attempts with "defensive play". This is not like someone is turtling up and just being difficult - Tommy DENIED attempts. However to an untrained eye it may look like the one standing is being the aggressor. The fact that you call Langaker's game as "defending" is proof to me that you simply have no idea what you're talking about.
