Thought maybe someone would enjoy it. Kinda a vent too ngl • • Shuichi ran through the crumbling halls, desperately trying to escape K1-B0's rampage. He didn't want to see Tsumugi's execution. He just wanted everyone back. He wanted out. He needed out. But not before visiting her lab. Just one more time. The pianist's room was in disarray. Each CD that was once nicely on the shelf lining the wall was now strewn across the floor. Not that it mattered anyway, the player already being smashed. Careful not to trip over debris, Shuichi made his way to the piano. Though dusty, it was rather nice looking. The dim light outside shone on the keys, welcoming him to stand before them. "Let me." A calming female voice came from behind him, startling the boy. He turned to look, stunned by what he saw. It was none other then Kirumi. She had a faint blue aura around her and was rather transparent. She gave a small smile before wiping the piano down. "What are you waiting for?" Next to appear was Rantaro. He gave the seat infront of the instrument a pat before standing around the edge of it with Kirumi. "O- okay" Shuichi sat down, rather intimidated by the grand piano. He gave a nervous chuckle and, just before tapping the instrument, got cut off. "Ha! You'll never be good enough to actually play." As much as Kokichi had gotten under his skin, he was rather relieved to see him. The same aura surrounded him as others, but he didn't mind. It was just nice to see everyone. "Who invited you!?" Miu spat toward Kokichi before grinning slightly. That grin quickly faded when the shorter male insulted her. They bickered a bit before- "Miu! Don't waste your time arguing with a male like him! He just wants to make you angry!" "You too?" Shuichi couldn't believe it. How were they all here? Were they really here? His thoughts were interrupted again by Tenko. "Just play it Shuichi! Cmon!" His friends appeared around him, more by the second. "Humans are so beautiful, even in grief." "Gonta and bug friends say you can do it!" "Mhm! So does my God! He told me so!" "This.. is worth sticking around for." The sickening sounds of the collapsing building got mostly drowned out from the encouragement he was receiving. But he was no pianist. He'd never be as good as her. It was impossible. "Hey now don't think like that!" Shuichi's eyes lit up, unable to hold back his joy. "The impossible is possible, man! Men don't give up! My sidekick is no quitter!" Though he couldn't possibly be there, Kaito's smile felt so authentic. His messy hair was in its typical style. His jacket draped over him, showing glimpses of the inner space design. Most important, however, was that his words inspired him just as they always had. "Y-yeah! I'll never give up!" Without missing a beat, Shuichi began playing the one and only song he could think of. Claire de lune. As he played, hands gently sat right over his. Girls hands with painted nails and pale skin. Everything felt better when she was with him. That's why he came to this specific room in the first place. The floor shook more and more by the minute. From the old windows in the lab, Shuichi could make out the fires and collapsed rooms in the distance. Just as the world was falling apart, so were the illusions of this friends. They faded in order of arrival. Kirumi, Rantaro, Kokichi, and so on. Shuichi wanted to reach out for them. More then anything he wanted to grab them all and tether them to stay forever. But he couldn't. With Kaede's lead, he just kept playing. Even if he tried to pull away, he couldn't escape her grasp. He had to choice but to just call out to them, hoping it would stop. "Don't go! Stop! Don't leave! Wait!" It was no use. The walls were beginning to crack around him. The particles of rubble in the room became so overwhelming that he quit yelling to avoid choking. Out of the corner of his eye, Shuichi saw Tsumugi outside the window. She waved, looking directly in at him. And just a moment later, a rock was dropped from the sky. It was so heavy that, upon impact, Tsumugi was done for. The whole room shook, turning his stomach into a sickening knot. "Hey-" A large but gentle hand cupped Shuichi's cheek. Like Kaede's hands, they didn't appear fully real. They comforted him regardless. Shuichi glanced up at the once aspiring astronaut. His smile just couldn't be beat. "Move past us. Move forward. I, no, we, believe in you. Tell Maki Roll I miss her. Good luck sidekick." The hand vanished along with his best friend, but he wasn't nearly as scared as he once was. The song was nearly finished now. Hopefully K1-B0 was almost done. The song concluded. Shuichi finally made eye contact with Kaede. She was shaking slightly, but smiled regardless. She kept his hands in hers, lightly kissing both. "I'm so glad we got to play together. Goodbye Shuichi." "Shuichi" "Shuichi" "SHUICHI!" A sharp pain stung on the back of the detective's head. Rubbing the painful spot, he slowly glanced up at the two girls before him. Neither of them possessed the aura of those who died. They were there in full. No doubt they were alive. "That hurt Maki!" Maki shrugged, not seeming to mind much. It wasn't her fault he was lost in his head after all. "We tried to find you when you ran off, but everything just got so confusing and I got tired." Himiko recalled the events with minimal enthusiasm. "Get down!" Maki yelled above Himiko, pushing her two friend's heads down and putting her own body over them. A deafening roar of shattered glass rang in the trio's ears. Shuichi and Himiko remained under Maki while the room around them completely crumbled. At the same time, however, K1-B0 smashed the border around the school. They were free. Once the noises and rumbles settled, Maki backed away from the other two. Everyone took in the scene with both shock and horror. Shuichi, to the other's surprises, was the first to speak. Actually he was the only one to speak. "Let's go. We have to keep moving forward. We have people who believe in us." Himiko gave a small "nyeh" of agreement. Maki gave a sharp nod. And with that, they clawed their way out of the hell they were trapped in. They made it. And they were going to keep living. Not only for themselves, but for each other and those that did not make it.
