😂 the “interrupting each other to make jokes” thing sounds EXACTLY like me and my best friend - we’re not co-writers, but we read each other’s drafts and are basically the cheerleading section, and the amount of inside jokes we have makes it so much more fun!! 😄

I love that Kate's rule of thumb is essentially "we'll just fix it in post" lol ... I wish I was better at that. Thanks for letting us be a part of this process 💜

I’m pretty much a Plantser. I need to plan but at some point I can only plan so much. I’ve mentioned this many times but I love to draw my characters and scenes. My storyboard is coming along great and I’m finally almost done writing the first chapter of my WIP! So yay! Also wondered if you’ve done an episode on pacing. Like how long or short a scene should be. How many scenes in a chapter, those kinds of things.

I am the same. I do a brief summary of the plot but I don't take weeks to plan out every little detail. I got to write it out in script format

And I don’t like it when my characters don’t follow my structure 😂 I should try discovery writing sometime though. At least for a smaller project.

I'm co-writing a 3-person POV romance novel with two of my best friends, and it's been so fun! We're also working on our novels at the same time, so it's a lot, but it's been an incredible experience.

Oh I liked hearing the part where Kate said "the part that you were dreading writing will just magically appear, because the other will write it" :))) oh gosh... a DREAM

I'm definitely a little bit of both. Where I pants the idea, imagine it, imagine some smaller details of the scene I've imagined to try to get as much information about the characters as possible. Then I go in and try to write and fine tune the characters as much as possible and think about how they interact with the environment. Then I make some simple notes in case I forget later like their first last name, a quick blurb about them, important info about them, and then I just kinda go. I write and then go back and edit to make sure it has details. But then I also change many scenes because I come up with ideas as I go. I write down things that I don't want to forget. And have a sort of idea of what I want to happen in my head

I am a mix of both i come up with the plot of the story and then the characters surrounding it. Then i start writing then i draw the story board and fix the dialog while im doing it.

As a pantser learning to plot has been really difficult because it was pretty tedious and I just wanted to start writing. I usually figure out a beginning and an end first with a handful of core scenes whirling around in my head and figure out how to piece it together.

As a certified plotter, I think what you’re doing is just fine. At the end of the day, you want to enjoy the writing process. I know a lot of people who will work out their core scenes and then maybe only plot how to get from one key to the next, or only plot 2 to 3 scenes ahead. If the idea of plotting out your entire story makes you miserable, then by all means don’t do it. I say that even for people who might be in traditional publishing where you required to write a synopsis for your editor. The finished product and what that synopsis said might be two entirely different things, and that is OK. What works best is something that allows you to get words on the page, and continue doing what you love.

I start a writing project as a plotter but not to an extremely detailed level. As I am writing to fill in the gaps, I am in panther mode. Sometimes the panther (visionary) side of me comes up with an idea that I Iove but that idea is not going to dovetail into my next plot point. I handle that by going back to plotter mode to find out where and how I can return to my previous plot plan. That said, I also know that now that the panther has shown to be involved, it's probably going to continue to offer recommendations which means this will play out over and over again. If I am being honest, I know that my panther provides details and emotional depth that my plotter is incapable of offering.

I feel like a combination of both a plotter and a pantser. I like to have an outline just to have a basic idea of where the story is going, but I can’t stick to the outline because what I have in my mind doesn’t always agree with what ends up on the page. I have to sit back and let the writing session control me not the other way around.
@bookishwriter94602 жыл бұрын
I'm a lose plotter. I don't write outlines or scene cards. I outline characters and their plot points. But I hope it will one day just become automatic, thinking in that way, so I don't need to actively do it anymore, like sit down to plan this and that, but my brain will just make up the story that way. So I can end up being a kind of discovery writing plotter. Cause when I discovery write know it ends up being shit.

I would be curious to know if/how writing together helps you deepen your intimacy as sisters? I feel like if I were to write something with someone, it would make me feel close to them and love them even more.
