short answer: no long answer: A lot of freaks spend more time in the game than real life, so they apply real world expectations to a video game. Some people will have a mental breakdown if you don't ask for permission to take their picture in vr. It's hilarious but also really sad.

Well, it's nice to be polite. Also a good way to break the ice and get a conversation going if the person finds the hobby cool. And people are less likely to be startled or wonder if you're a creep taking weird pics if you just ask. There's more pros than cons so there's no reason not to, really. Just good etiquete.
