I made a minor mistake. I forgot to mention that "deen" means "religion" but can also mean "judgement", so the verse could read "have you seen he who disbelieves in God's judgement?" The critique still stands. One's lack of belief in the existence of God or its judgement has no bearing on their treatment of orphans or feeding of the needy. It is a verse that demonizes disbelievers and disjointedly switches topics to scaring those who don't pray regularly.

If you knew a little more, this chapter is especially talking about the Hypocrites who are almost the same as the Rejectors (Disbelievers). The verses provide a brief description of how the Hypocrite would act, all the verses mentioned are talking about the same people who reject the religion they don't pray with heed and they show-off nor do they treat people with kindness. Who do you think were mentioned in the whole chapter, that's right it were those who reject the religion

So you said islam not allowed an adoption,which is true but the contextual and understanding is important. In your context obviously no "adoption" means you can't take the child raise em,give em good education,however this is false. Islam allowed to take the child to the family raise em, clothe em,educate em. BUT they can't take the Father's name which is what Adoption means ,also in adoption the child can take the wealth. This is prohibited. Because Islam is care for family lineage. Ironic because in western tradition the wife take their husband last name, while not olin Islam the wife can maintain keeping their father's name.

Adoption isn't permitted in Islam? A lot of things make sense now... I broke off my engagement with a Muslim man, who was constantly trying to convert me and push me into Islam. I'm adopted myself and to me their my real family, they loved me unconditionally and raised me. I told him many times that I wanted to adopt in the future myself, it's one of my biggest wishes, to pass that gift of love and care to a child that needs it. Family can be by blood but that's not nessarcy, I would love my biological amd adopted kids equally. He had a habit of not telling me that something was haram and he wouldn't do it, instead he'd drag his feet and try to talk me out of it. He kept saying that adopted kids can't be the same as biological kids, that somehow the adopted kids might be dangerous... It always seemed ridiculous to me, and frankly insulting. We split up for different reasons, but I have no doubt that in 5 years when I'd ask him for the 1000 time when we're going to start looking into adoption or foster care he'd have told me it's haram. It would have been devastating to me... He thinks Islam is perfect so manipulation and lies were labeled "guidance" and are his "holy duty" ... Holy shit I dodged a bigger bullet then I thought 😂

Well, liturgic languages exist all around the world. Let's not confuse prejudice with critical thinking. I love the Arabic language as much as I love Greek. You don't have to be Muslim or Arab to find Arabic nice and if you love Greek or Latin, that doesn't mean you have to convert to Orthodox or Catholic religions. Americans and linguistic majorities tend to find other languages disgusting out of lack of knowledge and prejudices. Some of those biases play a role in what you believe or viceversa. There's this branch of Sociolinguistics called Linguistic Attitude, which studies people's reaction to other linguistic communities. It has found that there is always a social reason behind the rejection of a language.

I am not exmuslim and my homeland is a catholic majority country. I was raised christian protestant, though. All this for context. I was always interested in other religions and it was weird to me to be so lucky to be born precisely in a family with the truth and questioned the monotheism assumption. For my athropology thesis I wanted to write about muslim minorities and I started attending a mosque and taking classes to learn arabic that turned then into recitation classes. It was beautiful and I have not stopped enjoying the recitation. People have said to me thay my recitation is beautiful and muslims can get touched by it. I never felt like it was a sign from Allah but simply the resul of applying the techniques correctly and imitating other good recitators (I love Alafasy's). It all is a beautifying technique. Until you go to the meaning. I enjoy too and listen to protestant, catholic and orhodox music when I feel like. People also think that I must be a closeted religious guy to enjoy that, but art is art. I would have to adopt a hundred religions if I "followed my heart" and let the beauty of their music convince me of the truth of whatever they preach. It is completely falacy to claim that your feelings about a piece of beautiful poetry/music are valid reasons to be convinced of the truth of whatever you are listening to. We are easily manipulated by beauty because we are biased in favor of beauty. It's not a sign of no god. It's a bias.

I agree that we tend to be biased towards beauty, in a sense that we are naturally drawn to what we deem beautiful. There are many church hymns that I genuinely love, despite the fact that I don’t want anything to do with Catholicism anymore. Islam is interesting in that regard because while recitation and calls to prayer are essential to the religion itself, it’s shocking how common the belief that “music is haram” is among Muslims today.

Coming from a cultural background where maintaining certain practices is not only common but often a mark of communal belonging, I always found something pleasant about recitation of scripture like the Quran or Torah. I was shocked when I learned for the first time from devout believers of these faiths that they consider these texts to be the universal and inerrant truth despite their numerous inconsistencies and inaccuracies. With Islam in particular, people have emphasized that knowledge of Arabic is not only necessary to truly understand the Quran, but that any translation into another language no matter how accurate inherently corrupts the message, so critique from the perspective of a native speaker is an invaluable resource.

I'll also tell you what our Prophet (upon him be peace) said :) "An Arab does not have superiority to a non-Arab, and a black does not have superiority over a white (and vice versa)."

Classical arabic poems have more strict rules to follow and this requires so much creativity to adapt with these rules.. creativity is what makes a good prose or poem or anything said, imagine how creative would a book be if Allah that has the knowledge of things were to challenge people with his eloquence. Compare surat al-qaria and al-zalzala, the lack of creativity in both is clear.. the expressions are really similar and the way both chapters end and start and the topic they cover, It’s like one of them is a knock off of the other.. this is an opposite of a miracle if Allah’s words can lack creativity in some situations how is it better than any other poem said? How is it challenging to a human being to write something like it?

Al Maun was one of my favorites, if not my most favorite. Was one of the first surahs I memorized at Islamic school on Saturdays. Along with the translation, and I used to vividly imagine, as a boy of 7-8, an image of my hero Muhammad as an orphan. And his generosity towards orphans and it would make me cry at their plight. I used to get so excited when an imam read this surah during salaat or on Jummah. It hurts so much to hear you recite it, because it's exactly the way I recited it and those with good qirat. It takes me back to a time of innocence I used to once have, before life kicked me in the ass and I snapped out of the matrix and everything else in this shitty world we live in. Sometimes I wish I took the 'blue pill' and just lived in that fantasy.

People think Koran recitations are impressive and they are when you have someone with a good voice but then have they ever been to a Russian Orthodox service anywhere in the world but especially in Moscow or nearby where the headquarters of the church are ?- the majesty of the choirs especially with those famous Russian bass singers is far far more impressive than any Koranic recitation - actually it was exactly the unrivalled majesty and sublimity of the Greek Orthodox liturgy in the ambience of the great Byzantine church of the Santa Sophia in Constantinople (Istanbul) that made the Russians convert to Orthodox Christianity in the first place - they were not at all impressed by Koranic recitations!

I grew up Eastern Orthodox. Can confirm that the Russian choirs are phenomenal to listen to, especially if they're monks. I've heard choirs from other nationalities (Serbian, Greek, etc), but the Russians by far have the best sound and talent

@@tamaratamtammorris8151 I'm a classical music buff and have listened to a lot of Russian classical music including the "Rachmaninoff Vespers" and Russian choirs are impressive indeed - my sister, still in the days of the Soviet Union, went on a tour of Russia and visited the monastery near Moscow that is the headquarters of the Russian Orthodox church and was amazed by the singing especially the lady with massive soprano voice who cut through the singing of the choir. Don't forget also the unparalleled western musical sacred music tradition - the polyphonic masses of the Renaissance composers for example - nothing creates the feeling of deep time and eternity than a polyphonic composition especially if sung in the venue of a Gothic cathedral or chapel like the glittering Saint Chapelle in Paris said to contain the Crown of Thorns. And then there are the baroque masterpieces of Bach and Handel and the romantic era Requiem Masses of Verdi and Berlioz.

It is mostly chromatic or based on thirds and minor chords, these notes evoke melancholy, fear and sadness in people. You think other religions manipulated humans with music? Look no further, islam is doing the same thing, but pointing fingers at others while doing it...

2:10: " Deen" does not always mean "religion", In The Surah Al-Fatiha it is stated That Allah is "māliki yawmi l-dīn "( Master of the day of Judgement). It does not say ("Master of the day of "religion"). Thus The one who denies the judgement( deen) of God, is the one who not only does the action (of repulsing the orphan), but also who thinks himself non-accountable for his actions, because it connects to what is previously mentioned namely that there is God's judgement. The Day whereon they will (all) come forth: not a single thing concerning them is hidden from Allah. Whose will be the dominion that Day?" That of Allah, the One the Irresistible. Today will every soul be requited for what it earned; No Injustice Today! for Allah is Swift in taking account. (Surah The Forgiver)

I will definitely be watching more of your channel as a kafir who wants to learn more about Islam. I used to never use the term Kafir, since I am a white South African who hates racism, and kafir (usually with 2 f's) was used as a slur against black people. I think the meaning is similar since it means "unbeliever" and racists in South Africa were also of the opinion that God did not love the so called "sub-human" Africans and mistreating humans could therefore be justified, even though a lot of black africans were and are Christian. (85% Christianity in SA). I now use the term Kafir when I discuss Islam, because I think it highlights an important point about acceptance of others. Please translate more of the Quran into English, since I can get an Islam-biased translation from other places. Although I am still a spiritual person, I left Christianity recently and recommend that people look at common issues with their current religion and any religions they plan on looking into, since it can save you from investing more time into a fallacy than you have to. You can still choose to believe in Spirit/God/Creator if you want AND you can love and associate with atheists and other kafirs like yourself without fear of the irrational, horrific idea of hell. My personal opinion is that this is what a Creator would want if they existed and cared. I think if holy texts were necessary for salvation, they would have been given to the first two people. I still have time to convert to Islam, I heard I can do it at an old age on my deathbed (unless someone murders me first) but I doubt I will since I feel strongly about female rights too, especially little girls, who I feel should only be mothers later in life. (I argue that Science agrees) I look forward to learning more on your channel. I plan on using anything I learn here to educate others, and will refer to this channel when doing so, if that is ok with you.

I am a non-Arabic speaker, and I can recite the Quran better than Alaiddin 😁. I can even memorise many chapters including YaaSin which I used to recite every Thursday nite. Now after thoroughly studying and understanding it’s translation and scholars’ exegesis… the more I think that there are many many verses that could have been written better and make more sense and good.

I actually think that this surah speaks to people who view Islam in the way that you and I do. People who view today's modern day Salafii/Wahabi-influenced Islam with a critical eye. You and I might have come to different conclusions based on that critical eye wherein you chose disbelief and I chose to retain belief in core Islamic principles, but the disdain towards the modern Islamic archetype is shared. The surah essentially says woe to people who worship for egotistic purposes (looking good to others, power, etc.) rather than for the love of God and life itself. It identifies that these people appear and claim to be so righteous and pious on the outside, but inside they refuse to even contribute the smallest ounces of kindness to humanity. In other words, they lack compassion, love and general humanity. Does this description not accurately describe the adherents of the modern day Salafi and Wahabi influenced Islam? People who have colonized the teachings of Islam and therefore purport to be righteous yet in reality only spread hate and fear by spreading damaging dogma that serves to control people through guilt and shame rather than inspiring them with love and gratitude for life itself? People who completely disregard the smallest acts of kindness like respect, compassion and communication. If anything, I feel as though Surah Ma-un is actually prophetic of the modern state of Islam and actually feels reassuring and validating to someone who believes what I do.

I grew up reading classical arabic literature and peotey alongside the quran. The quran doesn't sound special at all, in fact it's a bit clunky compared to contemporary literature. In your context obviously no "adoption" means you can't take the child raise em,give em good education,however this is false. Islam allowed to take the child to the family raise em, clothe em,educate em. BUT they can't take the Father's name which is what Adoption means ,also in adoption the child can take the wealth.
