@@lightningjadejavier if Naruto or Luffy or most other old shounen MC cries. it's mostly due to actual emotional thing or event that happened. like ace death, Jiraiya death etc. meanwhile most new shounen MCs cry everytime I mean look at Deku. he's just fighting and he's always about to cry, takemichi cries every single time lol.

A very interesting thing I read was that it seems like the kaiju within Kafka took control not because it was scared, but because it wants to eliminate the threat. It said "Kill....kill....kaiju....kill" like a robot almost, like it was programmed to murder other Kaiju. Kafka mentioned it was reacting to Isao's Daikaiju presence, so maybe it recognizes an "Enemy" kaiju great enough that it needs to eliminate. Since Kafka was holding back, it took control because of the strong Kaiju Presence.

You are correct. It wasn't a defense mechanism. It is going against Kafka because Kafka won't do his job! Kill Kaiju and the chief resembles a Kaiju while using the weapon.

Something that' lost in translation is that when Mina was talking to Kafka, she switched from formal to informal and back to formal attitude. The "you" she used in several sentences actually switched from "omae" (formal, for outsiders) to "kimi" / "Kafka-kun" (for a close friend) when the camera wasn't on, and then back to "omae" when she said "sit, its' time". This is something usually lost in English translations because English language does not distinguish between formal and intimate form. For Europeans I hope they make that distinction in their translations.

I think maybe there's only one numbers weapon per kaiju. I don't think Mina, Hoshina nor Kikoru have numbers weapons. I just think they have 003 on them because they are in the third division.

@@eros4350 yh that's what I'm saying. I think they think Mina, Hoshina and Kikorou weapons have 003 on them cause they were made from Kaiju 3. But I don't think that's the case

⁠​⁠@@tariqueanderson9240 Yup not the case, their special weapons have the 003 due to them being in the third division. The Kaiju specific armaments SPOILER require the user to be compatible, not just anyone can be given those due to how much more “organic” they are.

After this ep I just went for the manga. It's 3 am, I'm 65 chapters in (started from the current episode), and no spoilers, but we're in for a hell of a season 2, guys. Next week's going to be fire as well.

@@dreckigerdan3739 By definition it's not a spoiler. How can you spoil Kaiju no 8 by reading Kaiju no 8? I never understood people's obsession with spoilers. There's maybe a tiny difference, but if a story is good, the story is good, and you don't need to rely on shock value to enjoy it. I enjoyed reading the manga, and next week I'll enjoy watching a cool manga chapter getting animated, so I could even argue I managed to get more enjoyment out of the story. :)

No it isn't trying to preserve itself....It's trying to Do what Kafka doesn't want to do....Kill Kaiju! But the Kaiju in him doesn't see that the person in front of him is a human wielding a Kaiju weapon. The chief resembles a Kaiju and Kafka's Kaiju wants it gone!

The other daikaiju weapons are on other people or in storage. This is the only one shown in anime for now. Wothout spoiling anything more, its like in this ep mentioned, not everyone can use the daikaiju waepons. The number 2 waepon can only be used by the director for example

I don't see anyone talking about this, but I really think the kaiju inside of Kafka is responding to the gloves made from #2, not the director. I haven't read the books, but I imagine it will destroy the gloves and then end its rampage. Showing he won't kill innocents and that the thing in him only wants to kill other kaiju. I think these kaiju have factions, and this probably just a turf war humans are now caught in. This one in Kafka just seems to have an agenda for the destruction of its own species. Maybe the writer inside of me is just going down a tin foil hat rabbit hole though.

Shinomiya knows nothing if you go by this episode, he's just a blind old man, maybe it'll change in the future though. The judgement is BS by itself, what did you expect a Kaiju/Person who transforms into Kaiju to do when you pound him to death? Complete insanity. Look - it defendend itself, filthy kaiju!
