Very close battle. If the Kaga didn't get lucky with RNG and scored double fires at the end there, it may have ended in a loss.

Kaga or Shokaku? Which is better at T8?

Kaga is a premium... most of the times the premium ships are better than tech tree ones. So, I guess Kaga is the better one.

Personally I'd say kaga. Stats wise for me it's kaga by a large margin, just better w/r, better avg damage and kills. Shokaku does have better torps per torp hit and gets AP bombs which can give some big slaps on the right targets but kaga can maintain strike power much better. With kaga you essentially have a full free failure on both bombs and torps as in you can get a full 12 plane wipe on each and you don't really suffer any penalty, you can still launch two full squads and you need to lose about 48 attack planes before you are in danger of losing attack power. Kaga planes do feel a little less survivable but you get so many it doesn't matter. So I'd say kaga is better, but kaga will consistently hit targets over the full duration, Shokaku slaps harder but requires better plane management to sustain that damage output. As a now and then type cv player, kaga is superior.
