Big fan of this vid. I think the anti-stat booster mentality may be a relic of the time when stat boosters would be used to guarantee units got specific stats. For example, in my Perfect reliability run I’m trying to save my boosters for in case a unit rolls down in a stat and thus misses a benchmark. With Fixed this can’t happen anymore but it’s still on the brain of many players.

High speed and defense is Kagetsu, Timerra, and surprisingly enough, Divine Dragon Alear. Very good Spd def growths and that’s why Engage+ gives Spd and defense

The reason I don’t like the “you invested x into a unit” argument is because it undermines the whole reason to use a unit. Sending a unit to battle is an investment, giving a unit a specific weapon they didn’t have at base is an investment, losing HP and killing opponents is an investment, moving a unit is an investment, just getting a unit’s supports up is an investment. Giving a unit a stat booster to improve their performance where the items would have just sat in your convo otherwise is absolutely fine to me. It tells the limits of a unit’s performance and helps prepare you for your next usage of the unit so you can understand their weaknesses and strengths. This whole game is about managing your resources, so investing in specific units is a part of that too, but you aren’t supposed to focus on one unit in battle but how that unit fits in with your entire army. If you lose Alear, it’s game over, so you need to give them powerful units to keep them alive and work with them to improve the overall performance of the army. If you are willingly handicapping yourself with no reason or challenge actively stopping you, then you are just objectively playing the game wrong.

Boucheron is another one who can kinda do this, but is essentially outclassed by Kagetsu completely. Both in Warrior, I think Kag has a pretty solid Str lead (+5/6 on average?) and will have +3 Spd/Def/Res vs Bouch, but Bouch comes with +10ish HP and +3 Wt which at least means they’ll have the same Spd with weapons like the Tomahawk (best 1-2 range non-engage weapon) and Ike’s engage weapons. Both can also do this in Wyvern, with the trade-off of gaining Flier weaknesses

nope, Bouche isnt outclassed by Kagetsu completely since Bouche can quad with brave axe while doing true damage with his passive, he can even oneround sombron consistently on lunatic with brave axe

@@Cayden.1 I think they both end up doing the same either way since Bouch’s +2 = +8 when quadding, but Kagetsu’s higher strength means he can hit that hard anyway through Sombron’s defense. Also, even though Kagetsu gets weighed down by the Brave Axe it’s only by 2-3 points, which is roughly how much extra speed he has over Bouch as well (so they end up hitting the same AS)

@@declanm810 youd probably have to engrave the axe to lower its weight to get those results. Meanwhile bouche can run eirika engraving on brave axe and kill sombron with perfect accuracy, i have a vid showcasing this on my channel. heck you could run emblem leif on boucheron and a roy engraving on brave axe and still quad sombron to oneshot him, these are emblem rings and engravings that basically no one uses so the opportunity cost is quite low (since very few units care about either)

Yeah I honestly feel like Ike isn't the play for panette she just needs wrath and Leif/Roy. I don't think Ike is a good Emblem for vantage builds.

@@LP-zn8sc Leif Panette is probably the strongest non-dlc build in the game (with dlc Soren Veyle and Veronica Citrinne are upgrades). It is slightly more annoying to setup since you have to use base vantage (under 25% hp) but while engaged, it one shots with perfect crit and perfect accuracy everything except armored and 3 range enemies without taking a point of damage. When you're not engaged the only difference is that you can only expose Panette to one type of range at the same time since no adaptable when not engaged. Quite ironic that it took the weakest emblem to make the strongest build, so not only Panette carries your squad she also leaves all the broken emblems for the rest of them.

But then you are using Ike, who has plenty of other units you want to put him on, vs Leif, who nobody wants but Panette. That is a way higher opportunity cost than the lower SP cost. Especially when Panette already starts with like 1200 or something and the well exists if you want something more expensive. @@PetraMacneary

I like this build, but as you mentionned in one of the comments, warrior Kagetsu gets a rather low RES and in the endgame he will cap pretty fast at 32 DEX, especially compared to wyvern where he'd get a respectable 20 RES and a wopping 45 DEX without losing on build growth (but some base build). It does look like a very potent mid-game build though. I'd still reclass him later IMHO. I think this this is more due to classes being poorly balanced, Wyvern and levin sword + mage knight being so OP compared to the rest. I'd have him Ike tank as a wyvern or use Roy and off tank/reroll dodge tank with his crazy high speed because his "level ups" are worth so much stats and he gets extra res from Roy in case get gets hit by a random thoron. Binding Blade is also +5 DEF/+5 RES at 1-2 range.

Kagetsu just has the best stats in the game really. Anything any physical character can do he can do better. I wouldn't call him god tier tho because there are builds that literally solo the game like reprisal/vantage thoron one shot builds, soren/micaiah holdout drain tank builds and of course 100% evasion bonded shield builds, the ladder being the only one he can actually do but so can every character in the game (he is a great bonded shield partner though). Playing without dlc he becomes much better tho since micaiah doesn't come back until late in the game, so he's only really losing out to broken bonded shield stuff.

I never use starsphere or equip Tiki anymore, but I do the other dlc paralogues before ch10 with mostly units I plan on benching so that I don't get too much bonus exp. Just to have more fun with the rings later on. I wish they would either add another difficulty with dlc in mind or make the rings like edelgard and just receive them for free. I enjoy the variety but hate jumping through so many hoops to keep it fair.

This is why S tier should be small. Mine is Seadall, Kagetsu, Pandreo and Ivy. Statistically, Kagetsu is easily the best physical unit in the game. Excluding very specific builds taylored to personal skills, Kagetsu will do any physical build better than any other unit. General is probably the closest thing there is to an exception... and even then... (below, Level 30 General Kagetsu vs. Louis) HP Bld Str Mag Dex Spd Def Res Lck Kagetsu 54 16 29 7 28 20 34 12 22 Louis 57 17 30 1 20 10 37 7 11 Louis should wipe the floor with a Swordmaster dressed as a General. There's room to debate which is better. Louis gets +3 HP, +1 Str, +3 Def Kagetsu gets +10 Speed, +5 Res, +27 hit (before Blinding Flash), +31 Avoid Louis has a small advantage in the primary job of a General. But Kagetsu has MASSIVE advantages in other things you may want to do.

Although you need to really, really like Sandstorm in order for Timerra to come out on top vs. Kagetsu. btw, the 16 Res cap is going to come into play for Kagetsu around level 37. So the cap is barely relevant. Picket Timerra is expected to have 17 Res at this level. Here's Picket Timerra vs. Warrior Kagetsu, level 30. HP Bld Str Mag Dex Spd Def Res Lck Timerra 44 8 20 10 25 27 24 15 15 Kagetsu 54 13 31 7 28 27 22 14 20 And combat stats, with Javelin and Hand Axe respectively: Timerra 26 26 16 16 26 144 12 Mt Spd Hit Crit Timerra 26 26 144 12 Kagetsu 38 27 146 14 Power Sandstorm boosts Timerra's damage output by 16. But Kagetsu gets a flat +12. So Timerra is +4 on Kagetsu 25% of the time. But 75% of the time, Kagetsu is +12 Timerra can expand her Sandstorm damage a bit with defense boosts. Kagetsu's still going to come out considerably on top. Bonus Damage: Timera has an anti-horse option, but it slows her to the point she can't double except maybe Great Knights. Kagetsu has anti-horse, anti-armor, and anti-flier options, all of which he can reasonably double with. And despite the shaky hit for hammer and halberd, his massive dex and Blinding Flash allow him to pull it off. Speed: They're technically speed tied. But Kagetsu can carry weapons up to Weight 13 without penalty. And heavier weapons with minor penalties. Accuracy Kagetsu's base hit rate is +2. +10 during player phase due to Blinding Flash. Durability Timerra has +2 Def, +1 Res. Kagetsu has +10 HP. This will almost always be in Kagetsu's favor. Good engage attack weapons: Kagetsu can run Ike with a Silver Greataxe or Hurricane Axe, or Lyn with a Steel or Radiant Bow, with potential for a Fracture Merciless boost. Timerra could run Sigurd with a Silver Greatlance, but end with a poor weapon equipped. Misc. Timerra gives -5 Crit to enemies wthin 3 tiles. Kagetsu gets +10 hit on player phase, as well as Merciless. I stand by Diamant being superior to Timerra in almost every way. I also stand by Kagetsu being superior to Diamant in almost every way.

He’s not bad even as a swordmaster, straight up the single most dominant physical unit with a second seal, and tons of ways to use With unified classes, His def is actually barely lower than Louis, ranked at the fourth highest among all units, yes better than Bunet and Jade if reclass to Great knight Res makes virtually no difference, no warrior will be one shot by a thoron even Amber, and only Pandreo as a warrior can tank two, that’s how important res is to a warrior

Ike is a limited use resource. If someone is better with it (Kag) that unit should use it. That hurts the relative value of the other unit (Timerra.)

True, I also noticed Kagetsu Warrior res caps at 16 which is a huge problem. I went to dump my talismans on him and 1/3 were used then he was at cap. Timerra Picket res cap is much higher so she can out tank him on Magic. This also doesn't affect how well she performs on Main tank Eirika or Main Tank Roy, both of which are 3-4k SP builds (SPD+5/resolve or Resolve +) and can main tank C23 enemies/EP them similar to if she was on Ike. She also is slightly higher Def than him on War, and if we want him matching her defensive stats he needs to second seal to a different class like Halberdier/Paladin both of which have much lower STR and aren't as competitive/perform similar to her without sandstorm.

Kagetsu is not high strength at all, Clanne has more strength and is just as fast and has a better hit passive that also affects Alear. The problem with warrior kagetsu is the same as framme, his better stats cap out and he ends up being a lower might warrior for end game. Where as Amber will have more might and +20 hit passive is actually really, really good for warrior. Kagetsu best is sniper and you go for crit builds with killer bow and corrin engrave, slap on long bow for the range, maybe brave bow as well and damage fix with Lunar Brace+ (S rank bow if you want too since snipers can use it, would have been more exciting if it was a stronger long bow). He will be able to hit fliers and high avoid enemies with his hit passive and high dex growth, while making end game kills with crits, even more fun with Chrom to have brute force for that extra overkill damage (also chrom ring stats are S tier). Reserve Warrior for high strength users ends up being the best for them. Also, Axe General Panette with Ike to make better use of her crit passive and wrath, she can actually take hits this way which procs her passive and wrath with less risk of dying. She not really a tank and more of a high damage bruiser going this route, but it fits her better than warrior and still has the strength. I am going to test out Hurricane Axe General Mauvier for fun since he is the only unit with high magic, hp, and def (and res) with a high def cap too and a passive for even more def and smash weapons are good enemy phase weapons. His str is decent as well.

S tier should be based on how irreplaceable the character is, Kagetsu is very easily replaceable with someone as good or better than him. S tier: Alear [Dragon, forced deploy, passive] Veyle [Dragon, magic user for Byleth, passive] Vander [Sets up kills for your early game units and functions as an early only tank (do not use him past the start of the game unless you want him to be a support only mage cannoneer or martial master)] Framme [Only healer, great passive to go with her speed, has the growths to become a carry] Citrinne [Very low investment, can have canter and momentum early, thoron one shots in the first half of the game with momentum, always strong 4 staves support for the entire game even being under leveled] Lapis [Great avoid tank because of her speed, an insane amount of supports, avoid and hit passive that is very easy to proc] Hortensia [5 staves zero exp support] Seadall [Dances, heals, buffs, zero exp requirement the whole game] Louis [high hp, str, and def; immediately strong and can easily become a true one shot carry that can also be a true super tank, especially with Sigurd Ring (generals best users for boots)] Sommie [he Sommie, stop hating] ------------------------------------- A tier (Fantastic units that can hard carry if you know what to do with them): Amber, Timerra, Boucheron, Kagetsu, Pandreo, Celine, Anna, Jean [if you know what class to put him on and know what to do with him], Rafal, Madeline, Gregory, Mauvier, Merrin -------------------------------------- B tier (Average to above average): Clanne, Chloe, Fogado [potential to be a cracked out unit, but for the story playthrough, he is kind of average], Yunaka, Panette, Etie, Zelestia, Nel [she hot and a dragon], Goldmary, Jade ----------------------------------------- C tier (Can make them work, but has heavy favouritism for it): Zelkov, Ivy, Diamat, Lindon, Saphir, Alcryst, Bunet ------------------------------------------- Vander Tier: Vander ------------------------------------------- Rosado Tier: Rosado
