This ghazal by Anwar Ali Khan alias Mushuur is a melancholy of a story that we witness in our daily lives. It tells us a story of those of us who have loved and failed, a story that is bitter-sweet, a story that ultimately culminates in deep sorrow and despair. This story tells the heartbreaks that we go through in our lives, and the toll that true love takes on us when we are truly, madly and deeply in love. Being in true love and not being one with our beloved takes its toll on us in many ways, grey hair and frown lines on our face being the most remarkable. And at a certain age and time we tend to realise that our blind love was nothing but a folly but by then it’s already too late. No matter how the story ends, in the end it turns out to be just another story. What sets us humans apart from all other creation is our ability to create fiction and living all our lives believing in that fiction.
