I wish I could say that I accidentally found this song, but in fact I'm here because of Tokyo Vice 3-rd episode, like many others :) Nice show, nice song

Same, I was surprised when they mentioned Kahimi karie, dragon head, and 20th century boys.
Also here via Tokyo Vice. Plus, I lived in Japan during my junior year of college (attended Waseda Kokusaibu), so I get a lot of the references and experiences of Adelstein. I even wrote a couple of articles (in English!) for Mainichi Shimbun and did a few things on NHK. That was in the 70s. Arai Yumi was big then, maybe this artist was inspired by her. Catchy song. Clever lyrics!

cool piece of history! where do you live now and what was your experience in Japan like?
@kumaguy61152 жыл бұрын
@@remon563 I live in the Los Angeles area. I was in Japan for 18 months, living in Tokyo, Kyushu, and Tochigi-Ken. So, big cities and rural farmland. It was a great experience!

I was at waseda 2008-2009 and yeah, the show does remind me alot about the feel of the city too
@kumaguy6115Ай бұрын
@@Monscent You might check out the streaming show, “Pachinko”. It’s about. Korean family forcibly immigrated to Japan pre WW2. They struggle to retain their own culture while trying to find success in Japan. They have high hopes for their very bright son, who we see apply to and get entrance to Waseda. It’s fun to hear the constant references to the school as being so prestigious. They depict the school’s earlier buildings.

It's so interesting to see where she began and where she is now. Her music has become more challenging with time, and always kind of mind-blowing. I got to see her in the late '90s in New York, with Momus on guitar. What a memorable show!

Still one of my favorite songs and the album it’s from is still one if my favorite albums. I used the title as a username back in my teens but everyone kept thinking it was from the The Incredibles movie but her name is Elastigirl without the C. So then ppl called me e-girl instead which ironically also came decades before the term e-girl was a thing. Lol

@Lemieux_channel4 ай бұрын
Ik this comment is 5 years old, but fun fact: the harmonica player for this song, Nobuo Yagi, was actually a part of The Seatbelts group that performed Cowboy Bebop's music! Though Yagi didn't even play on the soundtrack from what I could tell, almost all the crazy harmonica stuff in Cowboy Bebop was done by Ryuichiro Senoo lol
