I've had a Kahr P9 for years. It was my EDC when I first got my CCW. The 7+1 capacity eventually moved me into a Glock 19. I still keep the P9 as a staged gun in my house, and I carry it when I want easy concealment with light clothing. The thing is really slim. I like the clean handsome look of Kahr guns. Mine has never failed to feed or fire. John sounds like he wants to hate the thing but can't find a real reason. Why the negative undertone? A good gun is a good thing, including the ones that aren't fancy, but just good.

@@ronmoore6598i think his main concern is the capacity and the trigger. I think those are the 2 key points he makes. And also the sights he said. So it may make more sense to go for the hellcat, p365, or glock43x. However if u dont mind those things, and u prefer the slimest most concealable option, then sounds like the kahr is still a good choice.

The cw9 is my carry because as a female in hot as f Florida, it conceals super well under minimal clothing. I don't love range time with it in terms of ergonomics as I have big hands and all smaller arms feel less comfortablefor me, but it's been 100% reliable. I agree about the less than desirable capacity, but that sacrifices the footprint for concealment. At any rate, I'm satisfied carrying it until something else blows my mind.

I own a Kahr CM9 and I love it. It’s dated solidly to 2010s like parachute pants are to the 80s. The trigger is great - IF you take into account it’s competition was stock 2010 Glocks. It can’t clown car 9mm like the new double stacks. But it’s solid, reliable, accurate, small but controllable and aesthetically pleasing. You can get a grip activated laser sight that binds so seamlessly to the gun it looks like it came stock. Incredibly the battery the laser came with in 2012 is still strong in 2022.

I have a gen 2 Glock 19 that has been my EDC for over twenty years now. Two years ago, my brother-in-law gave me a Kahr CW9 for helping him work on his rental house. Took it to the range, and was pleasantly surprised when my first shot was dead center in the bullseye. The rest of my shots were cloverleafed around the bull. I'm OK with 7+1, and you really have to do some dry firing to get used to the trigger. I actually like the trigger now. 1,000 rounds later, never a FTF. I wish I could say that about my Glock. So now I carry the Kahr fulltime, still shoot the Glock at the range. I used to carry extra mags for the Kahr, but lately have been packing a stapler to throw at the bad guys when the Kahr runs dry.

I had the same experience with my CW9. First round at the range was dead center bullseye at 10yds. It was love at first shot. Over time, I learned to love and prefer the safer, longer trigger as I like to keep a round in the chamber. And it's the most comfortable and easy to conceal 9mm I own. No other compact feels as good in my hand. An extra mag in my pocket, and I have no capacity worries. Thousands of rounds at the range and 0 FTF's. Checks all the boxes for me.

I was an MP in the .45 days but when I really learned to shoot was as a Federal LEO with short barrel S&W 66 & 686’s (Glock 23 later). I love a long, smooth trigger, like those snub revolvers. I have newer higher capacity pistols, but often carry the P9, CW9, and it’s newest incarnation the S9. For capacity I carry 2 reloads. You have to get used to Kahr’s and their idiosyncrasies and invest a lot of range time, but I’m a huge fan. Thanks for being fair & even. Theres some undeserved Kahr hate out there.

That absolutely doesn’t make it a bad gun it just shows how much innovation has been brought to market in that segment. I think when it came out it was a viable option, but that time is long gone. Higher capacity magazines are heavily marketed and overblown. Unlikely that you will on average, and researched throughly, will need high capacity, Most gunfights are documented as 3 to4 rounds fired, at 3 yards in a few seconds, as an average. Your not likely to become John Wick out there. If you like, and want high capacity, that is your choice, but a single stack is fine. Also Kahr pistols are very well made guns. The CW9 is part of Kahr's budget value line. It's premium model counterpart, is the P9, which is superb. Seems every shooter, including these guys, are somewhat critical of Kahr's long trigger, but admitted it, was smooth. They use Glock's trigger as an example of a more positive trigger. Kahr's trigger is a good one, and you "roll" your trigger with a very crisp break. Learning the Kahr trigger simply boils down to a training issue, that can be mastered, like any other trigger system. Kahr's like the P9 feel great in the hand and point like another single stack- the 1911.

I've got a CW9 myself. It's the budget line but the trigger is very nice. Don't really mind the smaller, single stack magazine and in many cases a single stack will not only suffice but will be an excellent choice where concealment is concerned. It's a great gun whether you're just getting into concealed carry, if you're transitioning from revolver to an auto, or if you want to conceal carry something that is small, but not so small as to be difficult to use.

I carry a number of single stack pistols on rotation, including my Kahr P40. The main reasons why many go on about not having enough capacity are marketing, newer products like the Sig P365, so now everyone feels under-gunned with their older single stack carry pistols. A concealed carry gun is a, "get-off-me/help me stop an immediate threat", gun. If you need a ton of capacity, you're heading into a full-on combat situation. In that case, your pistol better be your second line of defense and a carbine your first.

The Kahr seems to get the nod ( here locally ) from those who transition in their concealed carry from a double action revolver to an auto, as the trigger is more reminiscent of the trigger pull and duration of the double action revolver. This seems to be it's strong point for those folks.

I picked up my CW9 for an absolute steal back in 2015. Was looking for a good concealment option and it seem to fit the bill better than anything else at that time. Took it to the range and absolutely hated it. A mile long trigger pull, felt like the tension of a bowflex when I would rack it, and was a bit more snappy than I had expected, making follow-up shots not so great. In my safe it sat for a year or so, but there’s something about this gun that always brought me back to it. Ammo application is something to play with. I’ve found 100gr hornady lites are about perfect, and they have all the ballistic capabilities someone is looking for. Also outfitting it with a Galloway precision upgrade kit like tension springs, short stroke trigger, talon tape, ect. Made night and day difference. Last but not least this gun is reliable. Like 100% reliable. I would probably bet my life on it more than most any other handgun I own. It has its flaws like anything and ammo capacity is lacking but For the price, size, and dependability it’s hard to beat.

the kahr trigger is a "cocking trigger" when you load a round in the chamber(allways use the slide stop lever for this) the firing pin isnt fully cocked, when you pull the trigger it fully cocks the firing pin then it fires the round. kahr is a very tight tolerance gun with a strong recoil spring, lock the action open and put it away for 2 or 3 days then rack it a 100 times or more. lube the slide rails then take it to the range. run a few hundred rounds thru it, no cheap ammo! galloway precision has a short stroke trigger and a spring kit upgrade, mcarbo also has items for kahr.

Is it a Sig P365xl?, no but it carries better than most shootable CCW. It is a small very shootable carry handgun that is very reliable “after” about 150-200 rounds, a price you pay for a pistol with tight tolerances. No slop at all. Actually It is my 21 round weapon, just carry two small extra mag’s. The mags are also thin and smaller than double stack mags. The mag eject/insert is very fast with my set up. Lol, talk about damning with faint praise! Lost count of the number of times you said, “it’s not baaad, I don’t haaate it.” I bought a CW9 in 2006. Didn’t get to shoot it for a while, and I was concerned about something I read saying you could jam the gun up putting the slide stop in incorrectly. So I didn’t take it apart when I got the chance to shoot it. So I’d shoot it, put it away, shoot and put away. I never lubed it, cleaned it, wiped it down or disassembled it - for 4 thousand rounds. Because I got curious how long it would go. At 3,971 I had a failure to fire due to a light primer hit. That was my very first malfunction. Very first. At 4,021 and 4,023 I had the same malfunction. I finished the mag (4,025) and decided to tear it down and clean it. I don’t know of any other pistol you could abuse like that and get 4 thousand round with one malfunction. It is stupid accurate out to at least 20 yards, and I much prefer the dot over square to the 3-dot sights. Yes the trigger is long, so for us revolver shooters it is perfectly comparable to what we usually shoot, only smoother than many. And you are supposed to press straight through, not try to stage it like they were talking about. Eight rounds should be adequate for what the civilian encounters, although Kahr is releasing a double-stack this year. And if you are ever pointing a gun at someone, all of your fine motor skills will have disappeared, and you will be shaking. You will be very happy to have a long trigger pull instead of being a quarter inch of finger movement sending a missile down the tube. It’s a little extra bit of insurance against an accidental shot.

Seriously? You carry an HK P30 LEM (with its beautiful, smooth dao-style trigger) in an AIWB holster, yet claim the Kahr's similar-feeling trigger is a drawback? I can see complaining that the slide has to cycle to re-set the trigger. More importantly, I believe the grip-frame and magazine would benefit from the "P365 Treatment" for added capacity. The slide could be supplied with an RDS baseplate and high-line co-witness sights. But the over-riding positive attribute of the LEM, DAK, and Kahr triggers is their intrinsic safety for everyday carry in positions that would otherwise risk eventual self-perforation (e.g., AIWB or Flash-Bang holsters).

If you're going to do a gun review, it would nice to see a comparison between the Glock 43 and the Glock 26. I carried a 26 for years, and when the 43x came out I made the switch thinking that the 43 was going to be better. Though I can only get three fingers on my 26, it turns out that I seem to be a little bit faster and more accurate with my 26 than I am with the 43. It could be a hand size issue but I'm wondering if anyone else is finding the same to be true?

Had a couple of these. In their day, before hi-cap little guns they were actually quite a nice carry gun. Only complaints I had was the squared off slide release that chewed up your hand....Dremel to the rescue, and low recoil spring life. I had one that started to reciprocate back past slide lock and just get stuck. Wack it or let it cool and it would go back into battery. Discovered it was just crappy recoil spring.....it was over an inch shorter than a new one IIRC. Install a new one and it would be almost 1/2" shorter after a few slide racks!! 🤦‍♂️ Accurate and trigger is revolver like. Wouldn't be my first choice anymore but I wouldn't feel totally underarmed if that's all I had. Oh yeah, only pistol I've ever seen where the manual says do not slingshot the slide, use the slide stop/release or it may not go into battery......yep, they're right. 🤷‍♂️

I carry a cw380 (very similar but even smaller) & find it's small for my average size (male) hands. The trigger pull is so long that if my finger is positioned incorrectly, I physically can't bend it far enough. It's tiny, very concealable, & I enjoy shooting it despite the issue.

I still carry my CW9 pretty regularly even though I have several other, newer firearms. I changed sights and made my own grip textured panels for it. I run Sig V-Crown 115gr carry ammo so its a little snappy but manageable.. When I bought it it literally was all I could afford at the time. Had to dump change out of my Ford Rangers ash tray to pay the sales tax at the gun store..

I carry a CW9 and a K40. Both are great carry guns with smooth triggers, but - man - those long triggers pulls can throw you off balance; all my other striker-fired guns have short travels so the decision to shoot and the actual shot occur close together, but the long Kahr trigger pull can make you alter your grip if you don't initially have the correct trigger finger placement. Add to this a subconscious fear during the pull that the gun isn't working; it's the same feel you get from pulling the trigger of a different gun that's empty. This can be overcome if you practice enough, but it's hard if your other guns have crisp triggers.

I couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn with the Hellcat so I traded that in for a Canik Mete MC9 which I do love. Mediocre capacity is a disadvantage, but for it you get lighter weight and thinnest possible slide and grip. That's not the best for everyone, but the greater concealment and carry comfort is better for some people. For combat shooting, if you hold by "finger off the trigger until you shoot" then you get the fastest shot with the Kahr -- because you don't don't have to take time to feel for the wall (it doesn't exist). Bullseye competitors may not like it, but on the plus side for accuracy at least you don't get the jerking and flinching that can throw a shot if your trigger has a wall but you try to ignore it and just pull through. (That is to say, the trigger is designed for self-defense, not sniping.)

I switch between my Kahr PM9 and my S&W 442 and it’s all I’ll ever need. I’m almost 40 years old and in my 39 years I’ve never even had to draw a firearm as a civilian and I likely never will. This capacity garbage is more of a marketing scheme by gun manufacturers than anything. It’s shown statistically across the board that the vast majority of self defense shootings are over within about 3 rounds and extremely close distance. And I know I’ll get a lot of “but what if” guys…ok, what if? Then what’s desired capacity to daily carry? 15 rounds, 25 rounds? 50 rounds? Good luck lugging around and dressing around your 30oz Glock and a bunch of extra rounds. Concealed carry is all a trade off! The main thing is having a firearm on you. I’ll take my 7 round Kahr for my grocery trips. Haven’t encountered 50 ninjas with AK’s yet. And I think a lot of people forget about legality of self defense encounters. Our only job is to shoot until the threat stops what they’re doing or, if possible, run away from the situation. That’s it! I’ll defend myself to a jury any day with a 7-round PM9 with double action trigger over your “super cool tactical” Glock. I honestly don’t get why people bash the Kahr trigger. It’s one of the best triggers out there in my opinion. Like a finely tuned double action revolver trigger. Which is what you want for a self defense trigger opposed to something like a Glock trigger. I dunno, just my opinions, but I think the main reason of a self defense firearm has largely eluded some of the “tactical commandos” in the gun community. Shut off the John Wick movies and hop back over into reality.

Returned to ccw about 5 years. CM9 was my first semi auto. The gun had done me well. I'm confident that i reliably carried much more often than my buddies larger guns. (And yes, this was my discrete church fun:) Having said this, my kids, now adults, purchased more family guns... and there are better options now. (But kudos to kahr for leading the single stack design). The p365 for me is so similar and i can aim it better than any of my pistols. Ps... i was disappointed in seeing kahrs "new" gun show items. 1911? Really?? I'm super patriotic, but i want to see some NEW R&R. are they stagnant or evolving?

I got one of these for my wife about ten years ago. It's probably the snappiest gun I own. The trigger is nice, but it doesn't help with accuracy for me. One of the more annoying things about this gun is its magazine; it really likes popping off the top round when carrying a spare. I've had as many as three rounds come out of my spare magazine. Mine is also not terribly reliable. In the years I've had it, I've put only 500-600 rounds through it, and it's malfunctioned three times. I want to like it, but it doesn't have many redeeming qualities.

That's unfortunate. I've had mine for several years now and put several hundred rounds through it as well and can't say I've had any issues. Either with the magazine nor malfunctions. That may have been an issue you can contact the company over to get a replacement or repair. Largely, anytime I hear about reports of issues with the pistol, it's due to the ammo being used.
