"Before we worry about machines becoming human, we have to be careful that we don't turn into machines"; Absolutely fascinating dynamics of AI/ ML evolution, presented so eloquently. More so from "heart" and not just "mind". Kai-Fu Lee is one of the best person to present insight into the upcoming era of AI/ ML.

Waaoo I love the part Lee connects and stresses the work-life balance, esp. the place of family. I have learnt so much of that. We break ourselves down giving every hour to work for items that will not make us any more fulfilled than family and friends relationships.

Lee's speech is insightful and helps me to foresee a bit of the future of AI. I am particularly touched by the second half of his speech when he talked about how his old work ethic harmed his family and his life. This intriguing reflection on work ethic has helped me to think about my life at the moment. Anyway, it is an interesting piece to listen to. Learned a lot.

A city in China asked the famous American Chinese architect who designed the French Louvre museum extension, I M Pei to to help in a project. As the city is his ancestral home city, and the not for profit landmark tower is to attract tourists, they cheekily asked him to waive charges. He replied, “My name is I M Pei, I’m paid, not free.” Personally, I think he has paid for his meanness, he missed out on many iconic buildings China has built since.

Very nice speech, and hell, he's right about that thing in western nations about the policy's. Especially here in germany. With the new goverment they talk about how to create german google and other wonderfull startups, but that will not happend... western nation just became to fat, to old and arrogant.

As someone who had the pleasure of working at the same company for Kai-Fu Lee, I can say first hand that as a leader he is highly admired and deeply respected. I believe the personal side of his speech was more public relations then his true feelings for the following reasons: 1. If it were not for his very hard work and commitment we would not care what he has to say. Honestly his kids respect him more and most likely love him more today because of his highly impressive accomplishments and wealth. 2. His kids are all doing great and even if he were at stay home dad, they most likely would have achieved the same. 3. To say that teenagers and young adult want to hang out with their parents is very untrue. Kids want to hang out with their friends. 4. Many people on their deathbed actually wish they could have provided more financially for their kids. So if you are a billionaire or millionaire, you would not wished you would have worked more. However the pain of not being able to help your kids pay for college, buy a car, their first house, their wedding or give them any inheritance deeply hurts. So honestly does Kai-Fu really have any regrets.....I doubt it.

One of the problems is that many of us or the majority of us Do NOT have access to a prestigious education like oxford, Harvard or Cambridge. So when Kai Fu tells them to take advantage of the internships with prestigious companies for the most part it means nothing to the rest of us. Other than that awesome chat from Teacher Lee!

I do value Kai-Fu's thoughts on not being as restrictive on innovation, on spending a greater amount of time with family/friends, and on caring for our elderly in as many connective ways as are possible. Where I disagree is that conversation bots may provide the stimuli needed for a certain percentage of our elderly and for a number of other demographics, too. This attraction to and application of a diversity of communication bots are not so much anti-human as these are practical and possibly inevitable. In closing, I wish to add that if and when conversation bots become an integral part of our care and social systems, that these things are not over the top sanguine.

The rise of AI will need to be accompanied by a rise in our critique of AI. It was wise of Lee to recognize the synchronous trend of rising humanism in our restructured labour markets (reunderstanding the nature of work and our work ethic), the economy (through better taxation of tech giants), and society (through a focus on love, compassion, and meaning). Where it falls down for me is at the end: he seems to not recognize that human subjectivity is essential in decision-making in most domains. Common sense is subjective, but based on the highest form of human knowledge: accumulated wisdom. Fetishizing quantitative ‘objective’ analysis is a mistake: objectivity is always shaped by political decisions of categorization that structure inputs and outputs. I’m not arguing for purely qualitative analysis, but a complex, messy integration of approaches that is ultimately proofed by humans with hearts.

[14:30] "In terms of job replacement, a lot of optimists will tell us that AI will not take away jobs because -- look at history: every time there is an innovation, it creates more jobs that it displaces. Do not believe them these economists. It is not a simple repetition of history. AI is at least as large as the 3 prior revolutions ever."

Next vid is what all the unemployed people will be doing while they have no job or money . I guess we'll make slaves out of the rich and force them to share their wealth through socialism . Work is rewarding and helps us appreciate what you acquire in life , be that things or family or any combination . People without responsibility become bored and in a lot of cases go down a very dark road ! We need menial tasks.

yeah he had no answer for that, but I think what he said was right. People need to work but we should move people out of repetitive tasks and into human centered jobs. No one enjoys building the same phone 12 hrs a day 7 days a week. Get a machine to do that, and train that person now to work in a human centered field where they can work but also where they can find meaning by helping others.
