I never realized they recorded together. Curtis was dwarfed by the sound of Al Grey's trombone in the early 1970s Basie Band. He sounds fine on Coltrane's "Blue Trane," except it's a shame Coltrane and J.J. never got together on record.

Again recorded for that fantastic and dedication French Jazz label "Black & Blue". Most visiting American Jazz muso's must have recorded for this really great record company, over the years. And we should be darn thankful! This LP shows an more hard-bop "feeling" than Kai generally recorded with JJ Johnson. And Curtis Fuller was/is for me by far, one of the best bone-players. The backing here is great swinging Jazz of the highest order! Thanks for this great swinging upload, because this LP is an real “sleeper” gem! Dig, Enjoy & Cheers!

@Jacqueline Odigie We’re okay. But there’s a new wave of Corona starting and not that far from de Lago di Garda where we reside. Both at almost 80 years so we’ve got to be very astute/careful. Regarding my Jazz knowledge came from the fact that, apart from loving this music, since i was a young boy, i did for about 20 yrs, a Jazz program on Radio, so i had to know my stuff. The whole of the 1970’s i lived in Holland before returning to Australia. Abd thats were i met my dear friend Wallace Bishop, ex swing-drummer in the Earl Hines big band during the 1930’s. He lived also in Holland and we became staunch friends. Every Thursday we went to Nick’s Jazz Cafe which always had visiting American Jazz Artists. Over almost 10 years he introduced to all these marvellous Jazz Artists. I’ve commented here on YT about all this over the years. Those times were for me the best of times with very dear memories. Now Wally used to do a lot of recordings for the Black & Blue label in Paris with visiting American Jazz men. He used to tell me incredible stories how he grew up in Chicago (his grand parents were slaves). On a comment of mine on Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, live in Belgium in 1958, and here on YT, you can get an idea about my feelings for Jazz. But in the meantime lets Dig Curtis and Kai, Enjoy and Cheers! PS: This YT clips is on the Javier Rodriguez channel. The track is - Moanin’ Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers Live -!

@Jacqueline OdigieMcCoy Tyner, great Jazz-pianist. I went to the Montreux Jazz Festival twice, in 75 & 77. Btw is Vevey not the place were Charlie Chaplin, and Australian soprano Joan Sutherland resided? It’s good, under the current situation, for you and your family to go to an secluded area; and away from the virus. Here they are introducing a curfew soon, from 22.00 till 06.00 hrs. This horrible Corina is getting out of hand! Take extra care Jacqueline & Cheers!

Hey, I really liked Baja Iberia! A great number that deserves to be played again by a modern trombone duo. Solid playing (as always) by Hank Jones on piano!
