This wouldn't have even been the first, or even second time he tried to straight up murder Yugi and Joey in the manga. He was a psychopath in the early manga. In the manga Kaiba actually straight up stole the Blue-Eyes from Yugi's Grandpa and replaced it with a counterfeit so he could use it for himself. Yugi actually saw it happen and confronted him about it alone. Kaiba beat the shit out of him and told him to mind his own business. Following the usual formula of the early manga the Pharaoh took over later and challenged Kaiba to a Shadow Game for the Blue-Eyes. Said Shadow Game actually brought the monsters to life and had wills of their own. Then when Kaiba played the Blue-Eyes he actually had the balls to claim it wasn't the one belonging to Grandpa Moto, it was one he just recently bought, said dragon stopped in its tracks, turned around and started attacking Kaiba for being a lying little shit. After that Kaiba wanted revenge so he straight up invented the hologram systems to recreate that Shadow Game on his own terms and got ahold of the other 3 Blue-Eyes. Then after he gave Grandpa a heart attack he forced Yugi and his friends to run some kind of twisted gauntlet of murder games, including one that had Joey in a pit fight against a fucking serial killer chained to him. The grand finale of which was Yugi's rematch against Kaiba where Kaiba's thugs were going to straight up execute Joey and Téa the second Yugi lost. Honestly, after bullshit like that, can you really blaim the execs for trying to stage a take over?

@@zardichar3903 I can tell you definitely have a good taste for clever writing, because there is certainly very well written back-and-forth dialogue even in GX, where they really weren’t taking themselves seriously with the VA overall, until LATE season 3/4 Gx is like villain of the week dailed all the way up, and it does cross over from campy to hilarious on occasion, breaking the 4th wall can be hilarious. 5D’s is just straight good ass anime, no stop!!!
