This arc should put into perspective the Level of the Yonko compared to everyone else. At this point in the series the crew was nowhere near Emperor status and Kaido made that clear. Luffy's defeat really emphasizes Blackbeards statement of it being too early for him to be called that.

This is where they show you what you really need to be an Emperor. You need to have Power, Fleet, and Islands. Luffy at most has 1/3 out of these and they still need work. Luffy is the type to act on emotions but that's why I love my guy he's never scared of any challenge.

Luffy arguably has power, he theoretically has a fleet since after Dressrosa, although it isn't a traditional one He doesn't have islands, but he did announce to put Fishmen Island under his protection. And after Wano he undeniably has all of it. Also it shouldn't be forgot that luffy basically speedruns that whole pirate king thing. Up until Marineford less than a year passes (around 9 months). Then he trains 2 years (meaning he has spent more time with Rayleigh on that island, than with his actual crew). Then since the time-skip, like 2 months have passed. If we think about other pirates and how long it probably took them to become as notorious as they are, Luffy and his crew are pretty impressive.

Craziness thing about the fight to me always is when you look at the amount of shit Kakaturi put Luffy through at whole cake when Luffy was in a weaker g4 variant and Luffy still could fight and think ,Kaidou then no haki hits this man once in Luffy strongest form and Luffy gets absolutely fodderized for someone like Luffy whose spent his entire life since childhood always getting beat up and being so use to pain I can only imagine the force Kaidou hit this man with Edit: I forget Kaidou did use haki you can't damage Luffy with Blunt Force unless you have haki but still lol Luffy never got one shotted before especially in a fight of simple brute Force

Yeah Luffy always comes back and reevaluates what he can do different the next time. The only time he was unable to when him and his Crew were overwhelmed by Kizaru and the Marines on sabaody. Also you guys forget that Luffy's Motto right now is that hes going to go straight for the smoke because he believes that the reason Ace died was because he didn't do that. You get a sense of this when he fights Fugitora in Dressrosa, " We have to face these guys right away, I won't run like last time."

Ever since he lost Ace, Luffy has always been on top of fights up until Whole Cake. It wasn't until then that he started getting pushed to adapt when his tool set wasn't working. Even prior to the skip, he would adapt a bit in fights to win, but it wasn't until his for real major loss (marine ford) that he took the time to up his game. Before Katakuri, he didn't need to break the power ceiling in the New World. He adapts to fight when the situation requires it.
