It was both useless info if he didn't see anyone and wasn't anywhere near the scene, and it was info that the imposter readily tried to use as alibi due to how vague it sounded - e.g. Rob saying he didn't see who was with him. Honestly I would've voted Rob too. It was way too convenient for Stan.
