What's insane is, Eddie is only 22 here. And in "48 Hours", his first hit, he was like 19 or 20.. yet he was able to play at least 10 years older by force of his charisma and sheer attitude. Add to that that by this point he'd 1) saved a floundering Saturday Night Live almost single handedly 2) had one of the most sucessful comedy albums and concert films ever and 3) starred in another hit, Trading Places with Dan Ackroyd. He was unstoppable in this era.

The sequel, Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) is a definite must-react movie. It was made by the Tony Scott/Bruckheimer clan (they made Top Gun) so the action, comedy, and hilarity are all dialed up to 11.

Great reaction, Kaiielle! I personally see this as the pinnacle of all Eddie Murphy movies, he was never better than in this part in this movie. Fun fact is that this was the beginning of the Don Simpson/Jerry Bruckheimer collaborations as producers of top movies. Eddie Murphy is fabulous as Axel Foley, and yes, that is one of the best names in movies. All of the other characters in this movie do a great job as well. One of my favorite moments is when Axel tells Rosewood & Taggart that the "Supercop Story" was working, and then we immediately see the look on Bogomils(Ronny Cox) face. Priceless! This is a great comedy/action film. From the cigarette truck, to the crappy blue Chevy Nova, to the banana in the tailpipe, to the Supercops, to H-10, to learning that the Chief can hear through the wall. Thank you, for reacting to this great Eddie Murphy flick, and yes AXEL F, is a great movie theme. Let me just say that I've seen Beverly Hills Cop II, and it is a significant drop off from this movie. Of course, you can decide that on your own. Thanks again.
@christopheryochum3602 Жыл бұрын
You made a great point about Ronny Cox (Bogomil) in this movie. In every other movie I've seen (not just Robocop) he plays a bad guy, so this was refreshing. Eddie and his wife ended up having 8 kids (yes, EIGHT lol) so thru the 2000s he did a lot of kid and family films (Dr. Doolittle, Daddy Day Care and Shrek) but he also did a epic Musical "Dreamgirls" in 2006 and in 2019 returned to Rated R comedy called "Dolomite Is My Name" based on the true story of 70s action/comedy star Rudy Ray Moore. Eddie's Beverly Hills Cop 4 was held up by strike and all that.... but should show up in 2024. Yes, I'm a HUGE fan of Eddie.

@williambryan33463 ай бұрын
@28:20 and 30:53 There are a few reactors that don’t recognize the fact that Billy had to wait until the right moment to go into the warehouse and rescue Axel. If he went too soon, he would have been grossly outnumbered and likely killled. If he’d waited too long, Axel would’ve probably been dead by the time he got in there. Billy’s under appreciated badas- moment is also worth mentioning. He put himself in the line of fire to take down one of Maitland’s henchmen and shot after carefully aiming.

I believe the movie was supposed to be more of a serious cop action movie, as Sylvester Stallone was originally approached to play Axel Foley. But after he turned down the role and Eddie Murphy signed on, the tone of the film changed to fit Murphy's comedic sensibilties. Murphy turned down the role of Winston in Ghostbusters to play Axel Foley. But things worked out well for everyone, as Ghostbusters and Beverly Hills Cop turned out to be the two biggest movies of 1984.

Ronnie Cox's character really wasn't uptight. He did things properly of course, but he also showed he was as smart as Axel, was on to Axel the entire time, and had a sense of humour, he just tried to do things properly. In the end, forced to cover up for his men, he chose to do so since they were trying to do the right thing. Really.. he was the most ideal character.

You've got quite the eye for character actors! Ronnie Cox (Lt. Bogomil) has played both heroes and villains in his long career, though most people would struggle to name him.
