A couple weeks back i had to give my mom a lecture because she had autoconnect on to public wifi, and had no idea that the networks could be fake or even the real ones could steal your data, now every time she sees a public wifi she feels the need to confirm its legitimacy with me regardless of if im even there, the amount of screenshots ive recieved of doctor office wifi's is hilarious

Don’t click popups. Don’t use airport wifi or any shady wifi you find; VPNs don’t protect you from man in the middle attacks. Bring a portable charger on flights, don’t plug into the ports on the backs of seats; anybody can code scripts on those. And turn your airdrop receiving and Bluetooth off when you’re not explicitly using it.

@@tracetv8115 so you’re kinda right; as I understand it VPNs use private services to mask your IP and help encrypt your data so you can access blocked websites in your country or help hide your location or hide what sites your visiting from your ISP since you’re using the VPNs services. If I’m connected to a shady wifi though it’s still in the process of me sending and receiving all my data. Some sites like banking ones are able to see when someone’s in the middle as when it gives your computer a random generated input value to log on which (would expire after a period of inactivity) sometimes the site can see at your end if the random value has been altered by something in the middle or if another user is trying to use the input value elsewhere and wouldn’t want to let you log on but not all sites can or will do this. It’s like VPNs put your data into a tunnel that you can go through to get to sites. The tunnel is hard to get in from the outside and you can lie to websites and say the tunnel came from (insert country) since it hides your IP address so the website will let you in. The VPN will still have the hackers connection in the middle of everything you do; like if there’s another guy in the tunnel with you.

The point in using a password manager is so there are no common words or anything in your passwords, they can all be different, and you don’t have to worry about not remembering them. Whenever I tell my parents to enter a password, they pick a word that is closely associated with them (a pet, a child, a city) and a year associated with the word and they reuse that password. Using a password manager removed that problem.

Eh, at least on iOS there’s a native password manager these days and I’d imagine Android might have the same. Gone are the days I used 1Password as the switched to subscriptions, I use Bitwarden on a self hosted NAS that I made other accounts for my family members to have access across any OS. I am not an expert but i have a lot of experience with antivirus software. They don't improve your systems protection. A lot of them are a security risk themselves. What's way more important is keeping your system and apps updated. The internal antivirus in your os is usually the best option on windows 10 / 11, mac, Linux, Android, ios.

Let's just say windows defender isn't technically the best go to antivirus software that one can trust blindly. It does a pathetic job of removing new malware or even the old ones. Contrary to windows defender Malwarebytes seems to get the job done although it does put a bit strain on the system ( slows it down ) temporarily so not recommended to run when gaming or doing heavy tasks but best let it run when u aren't using the PC / Laptop to scan for potential threat and remove if any. And it's free well the free version is great not better than pro but gets the job done of removing malware. So install Malwarebytes along with windows defender but run Malwarebytes only when u aren't using your system or doing light tasks like surfing the web or using Word stuff like that.

You just use have to pick one really safe password, and then use a random gen for the others that you store there, and keep everything encrypted, instead of doing what most people do that is using the same unsafe password for everything and when leaks occur and your password gets compromised you are fucked, and having a diferent safe password for everything is not realistical, you will not remember 50+ random passwords.

because there's a smaller chance of your password manager getting hacked/leaked, then of one of your login credentials on any of the websites you use getting hacked/leaked. If you repeat passwords or have a simple to remember password, you are at a significantly higher risk than if you use a password manager. Password managers aren't hackerproof, nothing is, it's a game of risk management, and doing what you can. Anything that makes you harder to hack, helps.

Don't use SIM card's bc that's easiest way to track You. If You rly need your sim card for example for internet acces put in mobile router. Use hotspot from it. Use VOIP insted of your sim card for ringing. If you have at least an average PC use virtual windows with antivirus installed on the host, for browsing the Internet or some daily activities. Set yourself an automatic backup (encrypted) of these virtual machines. In the case of problems with viruses that the antivirus does not catch, there is a good chance that it is enough to restore the previous version of the virtual machine with practically no loss by encryption of files, etc... You can always transfer Sensitive files to an additional virtual disk that would be added to the virtual machine only when needed

A pwd-manager aims to collect all pwds in one prg (res. database), that's a single point of failiure, dumb idea in itself. The idea to store a pwd (let allone multiple ones) outside your brain, on a possibly compromissed system connected idealy to the internet is another bad idea. It is mostly a question of effort versus possible outcome. (pwd-manager in use? Possibly a worthy target. Running on a (windows)-pc? Also likly an easy target.) Windows Defender is all you'll likely ever need, recommending antivirus nowadays is not a great practice, as most of them are very invasive, or are a scam compared to what you're already getting for free with Defender. You should only consider a third-party antivirus if you are using an operating system that isn't supported by its manufacturer anymore, such as Windows XP through Windows 8.1. If you don't think defender is doing it's job, you can temporarily install an antivirus to do a quick scan and then remove it, using something like Malwarebytes. Tronscript is my favorite tool for this. If you know you are infected, it's in your best interest to back up your data and reinstall Windows.

If it's happens often at the same time, I would investigate it further. Some advices I can give you: 1- Turn off Third-party Cookies. 2- Use a secure DNS (Browser settings or your device settings). 3- Check who is using your Wi-Fi from the router settings, if you see a device you don't recognize block it from the Wi-Fi and change your Wi-Fi to a really strong one (20+ characters) best to generate one using a password, manager. 4- Check if someone have access to your Amazon account. If nothing of the above worked then it's likely have to do with your ISP.

@minato3037 11 ай бұрын
@@chodowski_legacy because if somehow or for whatever reason someone gets that password of that password manager. Congratulations they now have access to all of your passwords. This happen to me a few months back. Fortunately I got notified within a few mins and had chance to change every single password in time. just like 2 accounts were compromised but later got them back.

@@chodowski_legacy The reason is simple if you use a Password Manager and you have all of your passwords saved in any of the browser's and you have encountered a hacking situation it's simple the hacker will easily get to know with what password you log in (computer login password) is and then they will monitor the Password Manager that all Password's you have saved let it be Bank Account's or any other personal account's password this may breach your entire main account's data and it can also go public so be aware I would say NEVER to get into these typo situations be SMART NO DUMB! -

VPNs aren't going to do much to protect you, other than masking your location with a different IP address. VPN providers could also keep logs of your traffic. If you have to have a VPN make sure you do a lot of research into their practices. I recommend Mullvad VPN as it is extremely privacy-focused. Avoid free VPNs like the plague, they 100% sell data on you, or else it wouldn't be free.
