Sis Emma, check if your insurance covers consultation to psychiatrists or there’s hotline to talk about anything. Kase during pandemic, this was added to our insurance coverage. We also have hotline na pwede tawagan just to talk about anything. Madaling sabihin laban lang! Kaya yan! But if the mind is saying otherwise, ibang usapan na. Also may factor din yung di ka nakakakita ng liwanag. Like alis ng bahay madalim pa, then pag uwi madilim na. Di maiwasan maka feel ng lungkot for some reason. How much more kung successive days siya.

Very common ang nag oovertime sa work and it’s really up to the person to decide, lalo sa office work na salaried. That’s not unusual for upcoming lawyers, accountants and in other prof fields. But you need to prioritize your health first.

This is just my 2 cents. Since bago si Emma sa work, syempre pakitang gilas kaya nagOT. For sure she is not required to do OT every Saturday. However she wants to impress her boss/ bosses in order to fulfill her goal as a lawyer. If you feel burnt out, then cut back on doing OT. Maybe just do it every other Saturday. It’s all about finding the right balance that works for you. Hope this helps.

Pag salaried walang overtime tlga and yung overtime needs to be approved. If hindi ka nila inask mag stay hindi ka tlga nila babayaran. If you’re working OT kasi gusto mong matapos mga work hindi nila sagot yun. Saka since you are an articling student ganyan tlga, long hours talaga. Lawyer nga long hours na eh lalo na ung articling students nila. If you’re not happy with it, you have to choose family time or yung dream mo.

I’ve worked in companies where employees put in long hours. 10 years ago you have to be physically in the office to work. Nowadays, companies allow employees to work remotely. If you are the only one at your company who is in the office when working overtime, why don’t you go home early so you can ride with Alwin then resume your work after Zion goes to bed? Unless your company is owned by Asians who value seeing employees working late, Canadians are results-oriented. As long as you deliver, they won’t mind if you leave the office at a decent time.

Oh no, sis Emma! Unless you are working on a seasonal company, optional ang ot pay so if you work let say 10 hours a day, then your company needs to pay you 9.5hrs. If not then your company is abusing you! Alam ko medyo naiipit ka between gaining the right experience for PR and losing your job but you are right your mental health is the most important. Good luck sis. Fight lang.

If you are salaried, there is nothing illegal or abusive in not receiving an OT pay. It is assumed that your annual gross income includes any extra hours you may incur in fulfilling the requirements of your job kaya usually mas mataas ang base salary ng mga salaried employees. Hopefully, this is the case for you Ms Emma. But I do understand (and know that what you are feeling is normal), the struggles of being a working mom and that feeling that you are missing moments in your child’s life because of work. You are torn between family time and your career goal. But it will pay off ❤

Hi Emma, on the caveat of not knowing your signed contract at work - as a salary personnel you are entitled time in lieu for working outside your normal hours. I've been in Vancouver for 30+ years and in the mining industry for over 20 years, always on salary and anytime I work outside my working hours I bank those time. Honestly, I know you're in a difficult situation and I may not understand all the dynamics, but as you describe it, it sounds like you are being worked to death, taken advantage of and it is not worth it nor is it fair. Take care and I know you'll make the right decision before u burnout ❤

If you are paid on an hourly basis and working more than 40 hrs you should be paid or you can bank those hours towards PTO , if you do not get any compensation for working OT then that’s totally illegal, your employer is taking advantage of your vulnerability and status in Canada, it’s a different story though if you are salaried, OT work is not paid. My husband is a lawyer here in the US, he is salaried and he has tons of work however the good thing is they have a handsome pay. I hope you find a better working place Emma, or if you decide to stick it out with your current employer pagtyagaan mo na lang muna and as soon as makuha mo license to practice law then get out of that place immediately!

Quick question Emma, are you paid hourly or are you a salaried employee? If you’re paid hourly and worked more than 40 hours a week, those hours should be paid in overtime rate. If you’re a salaried employee and worked less/more than 40 hours a week, then you’re still paid 40 hours. Does that make sense to you? I’m in the US , but I’m sure the labor laws are not that different there compared to American labor laws. Now to put this in context , if you’re an hourly paid employee, worked more than 40 hours a week and not get paid OT, you should call the Dept. of Labor ( in Canada of course) and file a complaint. That is illegal in todays world. The company you worked for may owe you overtime back pay, with interest and could be fined. Good luck. Know your rights.

That's your choice. Your employer can smell your desperation and you have allowed them to abuse you because maybe subconsciously you fear that things will not go your way or you might lose your job if you say no or you might not find another job similar to the one you have or you might not be able to stay in Canada. Wala ka na sa Pinas, d na uso magpaka-martyr sa trabaho kung talagang napapagod ka, nahihirapan or d ka na masaya. Besides, if a door closes there is a window or another door that might open elsewhere. If you feel it is not worth it, then maybe it really is not worth it. Learn to say no. You have a family too. As employees we are disposable and replaceable, but nothing can ever replace you as a parent and you'll never gain back the time you lost that you didn't spend with your child. Learn to let go and open yourself to other possibilities and just allow yourself to breathe and be happy. 😉

Even you are paid hourly, I know overtime work is not required! It is voluntary and you can say no and they can’t force you. That is how it is in my work(canada). If you are salary based I think it is the same thing as well , it is not required. When you mentioned in your vlog it is required, either you do not know the law and your employer is abusing you. Maybe it is your choice doing it because they are many tasks you need to finish and not the employer is requiring you. Hopefully, you will not get in trouble with your employer or the law posting this vlog.
