Kailash have three options for their cutting edges. If you select their standard option the blade is usually a little obtuse for my taste. Their performance edge is quite good though. Good video! Great Gurkha Khukuri are well known for sharpness out of the box. Kailash sometimes need a bit of stropping to really show their edge properly and in my experience there is at least one time I've needed to use a stone. But their heat treatment is usually incredible.

Who would you recommend over the other? I ordered from Kailash regardless
@sundogforgebydml10503 жыл бұрын
@@Bowbro69 I generally recommend both. Both can do micarta handles though Kailash has more experience there. Kailash do kydex and I've yet to see any kydex from GGK. Both oil quench. GGK do their own damascus in house. It really boils down to what you want to do with the blade.

hey have u tested all 3 grinds? which kailash grind would you suggest for an one tool bushcraft solution? greetings
@sundogforgebydml10502 жыл бұрын
@@D4571n good afternoon mate 😊 I’ve tried the standard and performance grinds and depending on how you use the Khukuri depends on the grind. If you plan on a lot of batonning do the standard grind. I prefer the performance grind myself as it can do more knife stuff. Granted it’ll stick in the wood more but I usually only cut up to 4 or 5 inch diameter woods so it’s no problem. I usually only do heavy batonning in my videos as I prefer to make wedges for splitting if I’m needing to split a lot.

@@sundogforgebydml1050 hey thanks for ur fast answer👍 yeah the 4 or 5 inches thick ones seems to be enough, so i will also go with the performance grind. thanks for your help👍 i just saw that you have a lot of vids of kukris etc. i subscribed your channel and will watch your vids. have a good day👍

While good marketing and customer service, that seems a lot to do for every customer. So the cynic in me wonders how one would know if it's their actual blade they're getting a picture of or if it's one in a variety of stock photos they have that they send out. I mean it's not like a various of customers are going to be comparing the photos they get.
@TheNessmukКүн бұрын
Good comment sir. I keep the photos concerning fitting update of your Khukuri that Kailash sends. When the blade arrives I compare it to the photos. It is the grain pattern of the timber handle or the colour or pattern of the buffalo horn that I look for. They always match. Thank you for your input.

I love the way you just out of the box start battening and splitting wood and that really can test an edge. Nice work, do you prefer an 11" blade over a 13" blade for outdoors type work with Khukuri's? So far the 13" blade is the only size I've owned but have thought about getting a shorter blade. Kailash looks like a fine khukuri maker. I like the fact that its oil quenched also.

Please, tell me, does it has a secondary bevel with performance grind, or is nice convex until the edge with no visible line ( same as MK1 is, if I understood well)? It’s good also for chopping, considering it’s lighter? It would be great a review of HSI, or maybe you already did one? Great slashing in your reviews mate.

Chipped on me and the tip of the blade broke off in some branches I was chopping. But it has a nice feel and I’m considering getting more of their work, none of the issues couldn’t be fixed and you may have better luck with horn than wood, keep it oiled, I imagine in Kurdish heat the horn will drink a fair bit of oil.
@TheNessmuk3 жыл бұрын
Hello miss Shelley ! My khukuri needs good sharpening too! Timber handles can be fragile especially the martial design khukuri you have. Because you’re tip broke you should contact Kailash Blades’s and explain what happened. They should replace it for you! If you order another ask them to test it before they send it to you.
@ShelleyRaskin3 жыл бұрын
@@TheNessmuk actually is Mr, not miss, I did contact both times, they were not interested in replacing them, said I should glue up the wood and resharpen the tip, I think they exaggerate how tough they are, I don’t abuse my tools-on the other hand they make nice looking stuff so I’m going to probably get another one.
