Thanks! Yeah it’s not bad at all. You really don’t have to grind much at all. When everything is new it fits with no grinding. But as things wear the caliper will eventually rub that part of the knuckle. Once you grind and paint it you won’t ever think about it again! 👍

A bit of a late reply, but after daily driving a 1950 Chevy Deluxe for 10 years with restored stock drum brakes there is a bit more nuance involved. Stock drum brakes are more than adequate to lock up the tires, however they do have a tendency to dig in under maximum braking causing the wheel to lock up unpredictably. With disk brakes they don't dig in, which causes the amount of force applied vs braking torque to be very linear, which makes them easier to modulate the amount of force your applying to the rotors before tire lockup.

If you are working on a budget and or don’t have gloves save your bread bags and then stick you hand in the bag to the end and grab you bearing and stab it in the grease and then get it good and greasy and then pull the bag over the bearing and work the grease in the bearing real good and then pull it back over and drop your bearing in and throw the bag away. 👍

1” spacers are more than enough for stock Willy’s wheels. That’s what I run. Amazon or eBay. $90 for a set of 4

Thank you so much for your terrific video ... I just wrapped up the front disk conversion using the KW kit and several views of you video. :) You actually helped build the confidence to go ahead and do the project. It did not disappoint. Thank You! Now for a question if you don't mind... I have moved on to the rear conversion and coming up short on removing the existing lugs in order to install the new ones. Is there a good video on this step? The instructions from KW do not address this step and I am at a loss. Your help will be greatly appreciated for sure. (Is there a good video on this using the old hub?) You are a terrific ambassador for Kaiser Willys nice job.

the middle washer is a lockwasher it should be bent over to stop the nuts coming loose and causing rapid bearing failure.

I don’t bend the washers over. Never had a problem. Saves a lot of time effort during service. They don’t come loose if properly torqued.

it's never a problem until it is. bending a lockwasher saves more time and money than replacing wheel bearings,hubs and spindle because the nuts wound themselves off in a minute and the bearings disintegrated. you're better off bending one side inwards on the inside nut and prying one side outwards to lock the outer nut.

Great videos but I am having a headache! Did the disks on the front of my 47 2a and am using my new stock MC. When my wife and I try to bleed the lines, the front calipers lock up and will not rotate until I release a bleeder screw a tiny bit. Seems as if no fluid is being returned back to the MC. I think (think) I removed the valve in the MC correctly but ????. One other Utube guy said that a stock MC works good with no modification. What am I doing wrong?? Thanks much!

Whether you use a stock or aftermarket mast cylinder you must remove the residual valve in the MC. 👍 in the stock mc it’s a little rubber diaphragm in front of the piston. In a dual master like the one in this video it’s inside the port. You must remove this with disc brakes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHmmhqmFg5KYqrc

Have you ever had a concern with wheel spacers? I'm looking to do this with my 53' 3B, it has 15" stock rims. Have known people who've snapped lugs using spacers. (Probably too big) Would this kit clear with 16" rims?

Wheel spacer are fine if installed properly. Watch some of my off road videos. We’re almost all running spacers. I’ve been beating on them for years. It’s a non issue. Also remember where dealing a 2000 pound jeep. Not some 600 hp dually. 😆 You will need some type of spacer to clear these big discs with stock wheels.

If I was to look for a 1" or less, what specs should I be looking for? I see many different types of 5x5.5 spacers. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I am using 15" rims.

Nice video. I installed the same kit on my 55 wagon with 15 inch rims and there is no way they will fit. Are your rims the 16inch from Kaiser? Did you have to do anything to make the caliper fit the rims?

I have stock 16’s with 1” spacers. If you want to avoid spacers. You must use 15” wheels from a later model cj5. From the late 70’s on they had disc brake fronts and those wheels fit fine without spacer. 15 and 16 I’m h wheels from drum brake Dana 25 and 27 will require spacers. It’s kinda just par for the course. I can assure you the improved braking and maintenance requirements are well worth the spacers. I get mine on Amazon. Set of 4 are $90. I have a used them off and on road for years with no issues and 1” spacers aren’t visually noticeable 👍
