Huge eels alrite, years ago I went out eeling with my uncle at a place called mataroa near taihape and that's the only other time I've seen huge eels like these ones.

Ok back when I was a barefooted murderer age about 13 I had a straightened out heel hook on the end of the gaff the eel was 28 and a half inches round the guts it was only 4 foot 8 and a half inches long well in Lake Brunner and 1947 tiger Hahn caught a bloody eel. Hillbillyhunters1 Commercial harvesters of the longfin eel who harvest for profit need to take responsibility for longfin decline. The gentlemen featured in this clip hunts and gathers his eel as his right of cultural sustenance. Its the pakeha who have buggered up the stocks through commercial fishing. Money / greed. Maori have long preserved tuna in my home village on the east coast. The commercial eelers tried to poach our lakes in Whakaki and they got bashed hard out. The locals use the tuna as a source of kai not for revenue and as a result they conserve the stock numbers so they and future whanau generation have kai tuna. Kia ora ra.
