Kaitlin Armstrong Trial: Defense's Opening Statement Slams Lack of Evidence in Murder Former Cyclist

Nearly a year and a half after the death of cyclist Anna Moirah "Mo" Winston, the trial of her alleged killer, Kaitlin Armstrong, kicked off this week in Texas. The defense claims Armstrong was not at the scene of the crime, and there are no witnesses that saw her kill the victim, despite the state saying her Jeep was caught on camera creeping near the crime scene. Armstrong pleaded not-guilty last year to her alleged involvement in the case.

Opening statements can't be argumentative. They are suppose to tell a story. He's making arguments instead of just giving a summary of what the evidence will show.

Prosecutor is belligerent. …attorneys almost never object during opening/closing arguments. It’s Somewhat of a professional courtesy that this prosecutor clearly does not care to extend.

Defence is inappropriate. Attorneys almost never try to blatantly make arguments in open statements. It’s not a matter of professional courtesy, it’s a matter of professional behavior which the defence is not displaying

@@roflchopter11 I am familiar with her leaving to Costa Rica, plastic surgery, and even this last attempt of her running away but that’s all I know. I only know the highlights. I think I might follow this case, if cameras are allowed. If you watch only the highlights, it looks like she’s guilty, but I always like to hear the defense. I think if I was innocent I would run too What’s funny is the little bit of the defenses opening statement put a lot of doubt in my mind. I hope they allow cameras

She says she "went on holiday" (they are not saying she ran because she was innocent and scared ) issue being she used her sisters passport and got plastic surgery to look different. will be an interesting case but unfortunately we dont get to see it. There is a lot of evidence against her

I watch a lot of trials and it is RARE for people to object during opening and closing statements... The state's actions are completely OTT and bizarre.. This trial is going to be interesting but it is a shame that we won't see it aired!

That’s because it is rare for attorneys to try to make arguments during opening statements. It’s not the state’s actions that are off, it’s the defence attorney’s. even after the first objection was sustained, he kept pushing it.

The prosecutor is scary, what a nightmare to be the defense against this guy. The judge seems eh too. Ive never seen a judge appear to want to shutdown a defense opening thats only about 10 minutes in. The prosecutor babbled for almost an hour. This is ridiculous

I dont think thats it. They are stating facts based on the Prosecutors behaviour. Nothing to do with guilt verses innocents. Pretty sure we all know Kaitlin did this. Doesn't change the lack of professionalism . Everyone is entitled to a fair trial.

Not fans, Just respect for our Judicial system, This going on in court is NOT right from the start. Her défense wasn't allowed to barely complète à sentence. Prosecutor made it impossible for à jurys to follow défense line of Opening, without constant interruptions. Prosecutor behavior is intimidating even to the Jury, in my opinion. God help, if any Jury member/ family had à issue and had to face this Prosecutor. He behaves, vindictive in my opinion. Her défense, will possibly never be realized / or possibly even heard in this court. Smh
