Jibo was my very first crowdunding project & I am so proud to have received one of the first editions. I'm with Rainfactory.com but this is 100% done by just me at home.

So awesome! Thanks for the unboxing! Our Jibo is expected to arrive on Monday and I am so excited to see him. Have not even told my 9 yr old son yet partly because I want him to be surprised and partly because he wouldn’t be able to think about anything else. LOL

Fantastic unboxing and first impressions video of Jibo. Your genuine excitement really shines through. You should do some more of these videos. It is a shame it has taken this long for the release. In a world where tech moves fast... a vision from 2014 is not as up to date as it needs to be. Cute, sure... but the the tech and ability if developed today would a whole different thing.

It’s cute. I really like the way it gave the tutorial. Seems like Alexa but with the rotating screen and a little more fun.

Sheepy007: do you mean less useful? Fair enough but they can keep updating with software updates to add more capabilities. I actually saw a demo where a guy asked google Alexa and jibo some easy question like about weather and news and jibo gave a better presentation of data. Google just played an NPR podcast when asked about latest news while jibo gave a summary from various sources. So I would say they’re on the right track

Don't get your hopes up. Alexa and Google home are backed up by multi billion dollar companies while jibo is the dream child of a handful Crowdfund investors. Just because jibo was programmed with a handful of standard answering routines for common questions doesn't mean it is actually capable of autonomous adaption of new data.

I agree with Jop V. below (or is it above?). Jibo is a nice personal assistant, but it doesn't have the force of Google behind it. Jibo's a really nice companion that looks at you, asks questions, and seems really lifelike.

Lemme guess, when you buy a product like this, the robot keeps "learning" and transmitting data that you had agreed to share (without necessarily knowing because *you likely didn't read the agreement*) with the company who will then sell your data. Lets not ignore also that this will be connected to the internet which means its another device that can be hacked (which will be hacked). You guys remember the Barbie doll that was supposed to record your kid talking which then transmitted the data to the company? I don't know what happened later - maybe it blew over and people bought it anyway. I guess its less creepy for people when the parents are included on the "fun." Maybe this is more secure - we'll see. Besides that - this product has such a fake "attitude" that its like having a crappy Disney character in your house cracking dumb jokes all day. Robots are cool, but lets lets not ignore all the flaws. It seems everyone here just fell for the "cool" factor without ever considering its flaws.

Alright buddy. So according to you, since I use email, and have a cell phone - I should just buy into every product that comes out (that has a camera and a microphone) that records user usage and transmits it back to the company which then shares your data to help "improve user experience" --- you should just surround yourself with all of these products without question? Because the company has a privacy and security statement? Did you even read the whole privacy statement? Doubt it. On Google - Yes, I actually do have a problem with google capturing "everything you do" but the world we live in doesn't allow you the ability to live without the internet and email. Clearly we need to design technology that is specifically designed to keep user data as private as possible and avoid selling any of our data to third parties. You're acting as though surrounding yourself with 1000 other gadgets that are constantly connected to the internet is the same as using gmail and google surfing.

We need to get back doing everything possible client side. Speech to text should be client side, image identification should be client side etc.... When you have a constant on product that listens to everything you say and films everything you do while using the cloud to process it then whatever the privacy policy says you are at risk. If they use a Chinese server then the Chinese government can access and copy the data no matter what the policy says.

Sony abandoned servicing their Aibo robot years after they stop the manufacture of it. Jibo abandoned this service right from the start. So when Jibo breaks down you have a $900.00 pile of junk.

A bit tinfoil but, if they get a warrant(secret) then they could access all the data it sends to the cloud which is a lot of information on you. If they use Chinese servers then no warrent needed as under Chinese law all cloud data is available at anytime to them.
