A tip for shell jumping: you want to throw the shell at the very peak of your jump, while still going slightly up. If you just think about the peak of your jump, you'll get the hang of it really easily. Edit: I'm pretty sure this goes for POW jumping too, as well as some others.

I don’t want to criticise you - it’s a great video, but you’re basically teaching players to do a controlled shell jump. There’s no need to release the jump button after the release. If you do it as you say you get the shell jump, but it could be at any height. Most levels are made with max jumps in mind. Once again, it’s a great video for those who just started playing.

In 3D world you can throw a shell into a clear pipe to the right walljump and make the pipe curve back around so if you groudpoud you can land on it

So, I've recently bought a switch and SMM2 but I've never played any Mario games before (aside from smb1 almost 20 years ago), and I can't for the life of me figure out a way to hold the controller and perform these tricks. Like, how do you press run and jump, hold jump, and release run just a second to throw the shell then hold run again? What am I missing here?

To answer your question, in order to run and jump, you must hold down Y with your thumb (Upper half) and angle your thumb in this direction \ to simultaneously hover over B. When you need to jump, press it with the area of your thumb that hovers over the B button.

@@stulkr4803 I play with a pro controller. That's the point, I am unable to reliably press two buttons with one finger, I tend to 'rest' it (holding the run or jump button while pressing the other button), so I can't do any of these tricks easily. I'm just too used to a keyboard I guess.

In a shell jump you shouldn't actually release the jump button at all. That's a very common mistake.
