I am absolutely in love with mom. She's gorgeous, and you can tell she's such a sweet and trusting cat. And so excited for her babies! Even when she was in labor, she showed no signs of distress or fear.

Yes, it is just as painful for them as it is for humans and they have to repeat the process multiple times! The difference is that animals do not react to pain in the same way that humans do. They accept, pant through it and do what they have to do, crying out if necessary. We rant and rave and demand pain relief, mostly because we let fear overcome us. If women would emulate animals as women used to do in the past, our infant mortality rate would go down and there would be far less postpartum depression. The chemicals released due to the pain of labor protect women after the child is born. And the pain of labor produces a bond between mother and child that labor and delivery nurses often do not see when the mother has been medicated all through labor. Notice how this mother cat embraces her baby from the moment of birth, pulling it to her when the owner puts it up in the corner. Today most women spend a few weeks with their infant and then eagerly hand them off to care givers who will never treat that child like it is their own, then tell themselves that an hour of 'quality' time makes up for it. In the US 33% of all babies are now born by c-section, some of which are definitely needed, but many of which are surgeries scheduled for convenience of the doctor or mother. That is insane!

sortathesame I never had a chance for pain relief and don’t think I would have wanted it. My boy came out feet first but had to use forceps to go go inside to straighten one leg as it was curled up. I was very fortunate a hospital was near by as he could have died. Still I needed no meds. He was born a month early.

phase4computer Breech births are tough. There is nothing wrong with asking for some pain relief if needed, no one is asking women to be super human. Nor is there anything wrong with a csection if it is actually medically needed. They have saved many women’s lives. When I had my four, pain relief wasn’t routinely offered, so I just let my body what it had to do. My objection is to women who are given or asking for a c-section before they even have a chance to go into labor in order to avoid pain, or “ damaging” their vagina or interfering with their vacation plans! Which is putting women and their babies at risk of far more than damage during birth! Or those who plug into a drip the second they get uncomfortable, having been told there is so little risk that they might as well avoid all that pain. And they do it without understanding that they could easily be one of those “few” statistics they are warned about.

remi nii I know it is difficult for some to read anything that cannot be said in two sentences these days, but there was a time, not too long ago when people actually read more than a headline before they felt educated on a topic. Beside the fact that it actually HELPS the cat, to help put them at ease, and make them comfortable, most cats will let you touch them.

My cat let me touch her during labor and would come calling to me and walk to me to go with her to the special box I had for her. I had to sleep by her or she’d come get me. If they trust and love you they will do this. So sweet.
