It's all about making them fast enough AND strong enough to take on demons. Who even the weakest demon is supposed to have a neck as durable as a BOULDER. So even a low level slayer is already at (least) the level of Chunin rank ninja. Not to mention a Hashira is at the least the level of a Lower moon with Rengoku and Tengen hitting speeds able to keep up with upper moons for a short while. And we're not getting into marked slayers, the 12 Kazuki, and XXXXING MUZAN. It won't be such a easy fight.
