20 years later and I was still travelling like this...and even now I still enjoy the nostalgia...lol...it does remind me of the laps of Australia my family would do in the 80s to visit family in the East every 2 or three years. Mind you we were not story tellers...the best mum did was a Polaroid camera with us stuffed in the back of our BJ42 Landcruiser. Cheers for the look inside the past of David Attenburough 🍻🥳🎉🎊🍻 Best wishes for 2024.

My 4th Landy was a V8 County. Great off-road suspension, but I did regret not having got the 3.9 Isuzu diesel version after seeing how much better they were with low down torque.

40 years of overlanding in 23 minutes? - It’s a bit short, Andrew. However, a few questions emerge… - Do we really need all the fancy modern gear? - Of all the vehicles you’ve had, which one is your wife’s favorite and why? She should make a full episode on that topic.

Enjoyed watching your video from the 90's, there was a simple innocence to exploring then that seems lost in the consumerism accompaniments of today, while you filmed this, I travelled on a suzuki trail bike with tent and always ended up in some amazing places, I wonder what it is that drives us to get away from the hussle and bussel to scenic views with just our thoughts.

Hi Andrew - memories, memories - well done. Did my first Botswana trip in 1980 with an old Land Cruiser FJ via the south-western route (Lobatse, Kang, Ghanzi, Maun, Tsodilo and Shakawe. The second trip in 1985 was with a series 2A Land Rover, also the same route up to Maun (just love the expanses of the Kalahari) and then to Moremi and up to Chobe. It was wild then and we had to fend off Hyaenas and Lions at the camp sites. As with your trip, we had the most basic equipment, but missed nothing because there was nothing to miss. I live in what you will know as Pietersburg (Polokwane) in the Limpopo province. Thanks for your videos and wish you great adventures in 2024.

Loved the opening scene of a young Andrew already doing his thing at the age of 8 or so - giving commentary on traveling a narrow stream amidst the palm trees. It's interesting how our later life can sometimes be reflected back so accurately into our youth.

This was true overlanding in the good old days. A vehicle that didnt weigh 3,8to, and didnt have latte moccacino ice cream machines and pull out bath tubs on drop slides. Lightweight, reliable, in touch with nature. I absolutly love these videos.

This brings back such good memories of family trips to the very same game park in the 70s and 80s. My dad would regularly drive uo to Malawi to climb Mt Mulanji and I loved the adventure of the drive to and from Malawi. We also did a trip through Mozambique once during the troubled time, using just the bundu tracks, it was such an awsome adventure. Thanks for bringing back memories of my father 👍

@@4xoverland YEs i know you've been around 4x4s since the 70's andrew lol, I was ribbing you given the video stated 1990 lol which isn't 40 years for the video to be 40 year old it would be 2030.. my up until 1985 like most people into film, most likely using b&W or color no audio8mm reel to reel, by 1985 atleast you would of been on the likely on the sony or ilk hi8 video camera, camera's of today most likely be in the reality of 8TBssd's or m.2'a or btter for4k recording or more for 8k.. It be nice to eruse this footage as a comparison shot to showwhatwas available then vs today
