Have a question on ANYTHING to do with succulents? Go to debraleebaldwin.com and browse the menu or use the Search bar. Btw, my site is not monetized---no annoying pop-up ads. It's my gift to my followers and the culmination of my career as a horticulturist/photojournalist specializing in succulents. You'll find 100+ pages of tips and ideas; thousands of photos and must-know facts for specific varieties; curated design ideas for gardens, landscapes and containers; interviews with experts; seasonal info; and much more. Use the site as a research tool that also is entertaining---the same goal as my KZbin channel. Q's welcome!

I’m still enjoying your videos. I have been growing succulents in pots for 15-20 years in Colorado and bring them outside for the summers. They have brought me joy all these years and I was inspired by your books! By now I have experimented and tested all of their limits and it really is incredible. I am propagating a lot in water now because they root faster that way for me

Hi Charlie -- I've heard that roots that form in water don't do as well when planted in soil as those that grow into thin air. Have you noticed any difference? Just curious. (I've yet to do much water-rooting.)

@@QueenofSucculents of course just speaking for myself it depends on the time of year and type of succulent. Then there’s the challenge of acclimating them to soil. I by the way use almost all pumice and then supplement nutrients along the way if needed. But even then, it’s not bad. Sanseveria for example is quicker to root wit water prop

@@charliecgreenwelljr8011 Ah, yes, sansevierias despite being among the most drought-tolerant of plants become bog plants when leaf-propagated. I can see how pumice would be the ideal medium to transition water-roots into soil-roots. Thanks for the info!

Ooooh My Goodness! Wooooah! My Kalanchoe Daigremontiana Is really a Kalanchoe Laetivirens!! 😲 I even source checked, and it took seconds to confirm that, and mine is 100% exactly like yours in the vid. 9:15 I think. My stems, blooms, everything! Wow! Yo, Thank You Ma'am! 😁 Your video gave me correction to some others also, BUT this particular one, didn't really seeme to jive with the label and info that it was given! To many inconsistencies with information! Video Saved Subscribed From Iowa 😁

I'm a journalist by profession, so I go to great lengths to get names right. If I can't confirm a name with three sources I respect, I won't use it. That said, sometimes I get lazy and use "old" names that have since been changed (especially if I can't recall the new ones). Anyway, glad you're happy!

@@QueenofSucculents Good Morning Ma'am! Sorry I didn't respond sooner! 😊 That is really awesome ma'am!!! I have always had that journalist hiding inside, however I ended up in pursuing a a career in the Security/Law Enforcement field. 15 years. That's where I learned to be attentive to details, and since then, that how my brain has operated. At 37, I fulfilled a life long goal, and bought my first DSLR. It was in that moment, holding it my hand, I knew I chose the wrong profession! 🤣 I honestly felt that Ma'am! I would love to still be a photo journalist, but with the journalist as a partner.😊 EVerything from a war time journalist to local issues. I completely envy you ma'am!! 😁😁😁 I don't know if I had subscribed, but I am double checking that Ma'am! 😁 Have A Wonderful Morning Ma'am!! Iowa 🤗

Hi Rycalla, I'm curious where you're located. I show the same kalanchoes in the video but not with those species/cultivar names. However, I did Google them, and they're correct (plants can have more than one name, it happens all the time).

@@QueenofSucculents I live in Virginia. Most of my plants are indoors right now because we've had a lot of rain. I don't just have Kalanchoes, I have an echeveria and a lot of Jade plants and Aloes too, and some other various plants. The Tugela Cliff was $1 at Lowes and it lives with the echeveria and a sprig of Calico Kitten Crassula and a haworthia that likes to reproduce all over the pot, and it took off as soon as I planted it there. My Mom also has a paddle plant but it's not pink, just has red tips like a Jade. The Millotii is really big, when I saw that I had to have it because it's fuzzy.

A Kalanchoe for everyone! Do any of them do well under grow lights. Living in the Northeast I have to use them along with direct sunlight in the winter. With diminished sunlight and many cloudy days it is necessary.
@QueenofSucculents

Yes, you should be able to keep them happy indoors in with grow lights. Just be sure they get good air circulation and temperatures you're comfortable with as well (never below freezing).

When I was a child my grandmother had this plant. The leaves had little tiny babies along the edges that would drop off and grow. Now I know that to be what some people call a mother of thousands. But my grandmother's name for it was the bed bug plant. Not a name you want to use nowadays. Hers looked different than the ones that I can find now. The ones that I can find the leaves or more narrow than the one that my grandmother had. Now I have a couple of different kinds, one is kind of pink and the other one is just the normal coloration. They are very tall now and instead of cutting them I let them grow and now I have found out that they will Bloom and I've even seen a picture of the blooms at the top and they are absolutely gorgeous. I have collected as many as I can find in my area and I can overwinter most of them. I live in Ohio so there's no chance of me leaving them outside. But I really like them in all their variations. Every year I buy more of the ones that didn't make it through the winter and plant up a flat pot of them that by mid season, is overflowing and absolutely gorgeous. So I'm glad that you had this video to share with us. Thank you

I was surpirsed to learn when doing cuttings they need to grown in darkness to set their root system.
@QueenofSucculents
@QueenofSucculents 2 жыл бұрын
That makes sense, given that the environment roots need is dark. But it doesn't account for how cuttings will root in a glass of water on a windowsill, or how roots grow from stems into thin air.
