Hey Guys, This clip is from a DVD that I produced with my Mom (Yes, Betty is my Mom!). If you like this and want more, please purchase the DVD set on Amazon. It's high-quality and has TONS of great instruction, including six basic hula steps, three full dances, three complete play-a-long with Ukulele instruction, and more. It's a complete program and we appreciate your support of this original work. Thanks and enjoy your Hula!

My father’s parents were born and raised on the Big Island. They lived in the camps with native Filipinos, Japanese and Puerto Ricans where they all shared food and traditions together. Our heritage is Portuguese. My grandmother taught me this when I was small and I used to sing and dance Hukilau all the time. It was just so special to me. This was soooo wonderful to watch and she’s such a beautiful and graceful dancer and teacher in this video. Thank you.

OMG! When my grandma and grandpa went to Hawaii from Pennsylvania in the late 1950's (they stayed at the Royal Hawaiian on Waikiki which is now dwarfed by big tall buildings), Grandpa learned this song and taught it to me when they got home. He also brought me a grass skirt. I can still remember most of the song -- I just have been six or seven when he taught it to me. Your dance moves are so lovely and bring back a very happy memory for me. Thanks!

Hi Kalani, I am currently learning the Hukilau dance from the video with your mom. Which version of the Hukilau song is played in the instruction video? The songs I find differ so much - in the speed/the ryhthm and partially in the wording or the repetition of the verses. Thank you for your help!
