I will totally be soaking in this video I was out in the water today and chatting with this other surfer, and she said she watches videos on youtube to learn, and I asked her if she knew Kale Brock and she was like "yeah!! (in unison with an Australian accent) kales broccoli!"

I have been surfing for 40 years (not very well) and I really enjoy these videos. They are so informative because you are teaching us about the often unspoken nuances of surfing. Very informative so thanks Kale.

Another fantastic video Kale. You have a real gift in understanding the intricates of surfing & another gift in explaining/articulating the finer vital points in enabling efficient maneuvers & subsequent progression. The WSL should have an award for internet coaching - you’ll get it (Chris Mills would be a close runner-up)! 👍🤙

Thanks for all the tips Kale. My new surfing mantra is Flow, Go, Slow, Low.. Watch for the flow of the wave, look the direction to I want to go, popup slow and stay low..

Kale, great video! Next edit, it would be great to hear some tips about some topics that arent always spoken of: paddling in and out, how not to paddle into someones line, how to bail off the board…what to do when a wave you are paddling on to starts to close in!

Good tutorial, loved the description on bottom turns not being a maneuver per se when trying to get into the speed section of the wave (about 6.05 in). Something that I do naturally, but have never heard it broken down like that before. Great lesson for beginners!

More great tips Kayle! I've been working on getting my confidence back too - staying out of the way on the smaller waves the guys outside don't take. Switching to a shorter (hybrid) board in the steep local waves has helped too & I find I don't feel as rushed popping up. Might remind folks entering the water and paddling out to be aware of surfers taking off on waves. See a lot of people unaware of what's coming at them lately.....

Hey kale when you do surf breakdowns of body mechanics and stuff and when it’s in slow motion could u replay the same clip with your same voice over on it but flip the screen for all of us goofy foot surfers please. Just for the slow motion breakdowns not a flipped screen for the whole video. Plus it will make your videos a little longer.
@KalesBroccoli4 жыл бұрын
It’s easier to leave the goofy footers goofy and the naturall footers natural but I’ll try to keep it in mind

Hey Kale, glad to see this video! I just switched to a short board(33L so not too high performance) but I struggle with my pop up the most and usually feel like the drop is too steep when I’m about to pop up. Do you think this is in my head or could I possibly be doing something wrong that is putting me at a bad angle? Any tips would help!

Hey kale, when you were discussing turning... if I want to go right would I want to angle my board a smidge to the right before the wave approaches me and While I am paddling? OR do I keep the board straight and only start turning once I am in the peak of the wave?!

Hi kale! I have been surfing for around 4 years and my paddling and behavior in the sea with the board is pretty good. But the only missing part is my pop up. 4 years that I've been struggling with my pop up. I perform it almost perfectl on land. But in the water I tend to fall a lot and miss good waves, even though my positioning is great before takeoff , I just mess up everything when I try to pop up!!! I really need your guidance and help cause it kills my progression😢 I have short Achilles tendons and I think that might be the thing that makes it harder for me.
