Paul, many thanks for another one of your excellent and informative videos. There are many unqualified so called instructors on You Tube right now who are incorrectly teaching the martial arts disciplines to the masses. It is really wonderful to have The Kali Center. Paul, I really enjoy practicing Kali and how you are able to logically integrate the didactical teachings of Kali as you parallel those teachings with the clinical aspect thru " Drills / Hand to Hand Combat / Weapons Training " in a real time scenario of workouts that you instill in me. Paul, please keep them coming along.

Excellent explanation on the numbering system's referenced to the actual targeted body part. Makes so much sense. Aha moment. Kudos.

Had to refresh my memory on this because I've been working on double weave techniques with my fire staffs and forgot about the numbers. Lol. I trained Arnis for about a year total, on and off and this is very helpful. You the man Paul. I think ours had 10 with a block strike that would be the secret 11th strike. Lol

The Pekiti Tersia I studied shared a lot from Doce Pares but was informed by a decent amount of Pencak Silat, so it had the "64 Attacks" though most of the individual moves were a little differently formed than in Doce Pares and the numbering was also a little different. I think in Doce Pares the 1 and 2 are the same but for the 3 and 4 those strikes went across the body at the elbow/floating rib. Our 3 and 4 came up from leg level and went to the groin or under the arm. Then we also had our Sina Wali double stick flow that encompassed 181 various strikes. Once you had all that down it was the fine tuning of minutiae and techniques that you got into, like disarms, take downs, locks and joint manipulation. So, yeah, some systems have less strikes or attacks others had more. Definitely depends on the style. Informative content, thanks!

Thank you so much, Paul! This is such a big help. Visually, the strikes make sense. But, like you said, knowing the numbering systems is a more efficient form of communication. As a beginner, my understanding will be more efficient as well since the numbering systems are often spoken but, hardly ever explained on KZbin. 🤺🧑🎓

Personally, I only ever use 6 numbers, and anything that is 3 or is divisible by 3 is the magic number in kali

1 thru 5 are consistent for many systems, but passed 5 the numbering can greatly vary. My current teachers don't use numbers past 5 and just name the strikes and thrusts because they've interacted with so many different styles.

At first studied modern arnis with 12 strikes,, from the book Escrima self defense by Romain,5 strikes. The Arnis Lanada book didn't I believe number the strikes but named a good number of them. The books of Dwight Mc Lemoore (not filipino) use a 8 strike system, but the strikes changed from weapon to weapon .Now I use 8 count but count thre stabs separate.( use your 3 stab drill).sorry this went long.

Yes teaching methods, or maybe its a littke easier to learn and practice 5 moves today and 10 angles tomorrow thats enough to keep you busy for a week ,.and a couple of strikes to the elbow or knee and a dissarm or 2 is enough to keep you busy for now right !

Yeah nice... Uhm, ... but I just smashed the thumbs-up button and my notebook keeps throwing sparks. Like A LOT. I simply performed a vertical redondo, did I do something wrong? Perhaps I should have applied an angle one with moderate force, rather than the redondo with full force...
