The very name..KEERAVANI now takes my mind to MS Amma and her rendition of "Devi Neeye Thunai" ..also Radha Viswanathan Amma....recently listened the rendition of their grand daughters S Aishwarya and S Saundarya together with Sriranjani Santhanagopalan which was found well synchronized. This Kriti of Papanasam is yhis master piece on Madurai Meenakshi Amma. Radha Viswanathan's unique high toned shrill voice was certainly a good 'second fiddle' for MS and at the same time her solo renditions were very much appreciated by the fans of MS. Pranams to souls of .both M.S Amma and radha Viswanathan..... of course, panasam has another song to his redit in the same ragam-'Karunaakarane shivasankarane' which is also a rich composition. 'Keeravani' a Sampoorna ragam/21 st Melakartha which is the shuddha madhyamam equivalent of 'Simhendramadhyamam, which is the 57th Melakarta. It is the 3rd ragam in the 4th chakra Veda. Keeravani may be the No.1 among ragas that has many janya ragams (derived scales) associated with it. among ragams having Janya ragams., 'Kalyana vasantam' is the most popular janya of Keeravani Further Keeravani's notes when shifted using Graha bhedam, yields 3 other major melakarta ragams- Hemavati, Vakulabharanam and Kosalam! . Here. Bhrat Sundar's outstanding presentation of the " kaligiyunte gadaa galgunu kaamita phaladaayaka"......the Vocalist excelled in the swarakalpana after singing the lyrically superb charanam and is found to be an extempore rendition.
