Kalinga region was the region from the river Ganges in North to river Godavari in the South, so that's why the old ancient temples in these areas has its origin to Kalingan school of architecture.

There are Jain temple structures in Kalinga much much older than the Hindu temples, though not in pristine preserved state. Some light should have been thrown over them.
