@@fiore-livinglife_0630 where specifically does not matter. I recommend you travel first, tourists can get a tourist visa for a total 90-180 days in Sweden per year so you can visit different regions and experience all seasons and what the day to day is like after you get a little used to it so you notice if you truly would be happy to live and work here or if you are just in love with the idea/dream. But yes,you can apply for work visa and residence permit. SFI ( Swedish for immigrants ) is a free education you can apply for,you can also apply for money ( Not a loan, around 250 dollars monthly payment for studies) in many cases if you want a professional teacher and meet other foreigners so you can network and talk about tips and such to better integrate and understand the culture, language and Swedish/Nordic people, make local Swedish friends find work etc. Sweden has no issues with phillipines or the filipino/pinoy people so it would be as easy or hard as for an American,Australian, korean etc. .if you can support yourself and start with a work and residence permit after definetly spending a lot of time as a tourist exploring as much as you can and different seasons you can definetly go from permanent resident permit to citizenship in time if thats your goal. Do spend a few weeks in each season and stay in south, middle and north etc as the difference between seasons and the land is more extreme the further north or south you go/ near or far from the 3 major cities göFothenburg,Stockholm and Malmö/Malmo. Far north you have 30 days in winter when the sun never rises and night lasts one month. This is called polar night In summer you have up to 30 days the further north you live, where the sun never goes down and you have a month of sunlight and not even a minute of darkness. This is called midnight sun. Towards the middle and south of Sweden you dont have this ,you get a few hours of light even on the datkest day,and a few hours of night even on the brightest day. If after visiting a lot of days and exploring and experiencing our land, people and culture not only for a week as a tourist but a long time so you find out if you could be happy here long term,it is absolutely possible to move, work and live here if you truly end up wanting to do so. 🙂

@Kalle Flodin As someone who grew up in Stockholm and Härnösand,i am also saving up and trying to move away from a workplace and into a digital environment so i can move, not necessarily to Sollefteå but to somewhere around the middle north. Maybe somewhere between just south or north of Sollefteå but not further north than near Luleå because i wouldn-t mind having a smaller to medium city in reasonable driving distance Aslong as my home is further away and i don't actually see the town/city from my property Packed like a sardines in a can in Stockholm city is not and has never been my oreference,i dont want the live exactly as you do but a version of it and its very inspiring and motivating to see how you made it happen and honesty about pro's and cons, costs, what you gave up and what you gained. The great, the good and the bad/difficult. TACK!

Sweden is such a beautiful country with beautiful people. As an immigrant from Africa who used to live in Sweden, I feel very sad when I read about all the crimes there being committed by some recent immigrants and also when I hear the fears other immigrants are exposed to as a result of the recent racial tensions in the country. I still miss Sweden and will always wish the country to continue progressing. They are such good people with kind hearts. God bless Sweden.

This made me so nostalgic. I’m danish but used to live in a small town near Hudiksvall. I miss not having a tv and spending most nights walking around the beautiful lakes, I miss the forests, the community of small town living, swedes making fun of my accent, I miss the snow. Sollefteå looks beautiful, thanks for sharing.

@europeisbetterthan5269 It's a beautiful place. When I contemplate living in Sweden, it is certainly a place like the video shows, as opppsed to Stockholm or Malmo. Which places in Sweden did you visit? I'm sure that Sweden was probably a far more desirable place to live 3 or 4 decades ago than it is today?

Thank you for your very interesting vlogs. I'm 71 and am originally from South Africa. My husband and I moved to the UK 16 years ago and for a South African it was a huge culture shock. I thought that because one of my languages is English, the other Afrikaans, bit like Dutch or Flemish, it would be easy to adapt. Although I lived in Johannesburg until I was 54, people are so different and friendly. English people are very reserved. We live in Cambridge, a university city. We came here for free medical help for my British born husband, so different to SA. My husband had a hip replacement and it was a mess, but nothing was done to rectify it. He has been disabled in bed for 9 years. We live in a community with quite a few older people and even when you invite them they still will not bother to come and visit. When you talked about the supermarket where people talk to you, I was quite jealous. Here after going to the same supermarket for 16 years, they still don't talk to you. I just take a scanner and help myself. It is so lonely. I have got two friends, the one is German and the other one is Polish and they are always there for us. Your town is so civilised and friendly and the beautiful nature on your doorstep, that is what you need. If I want decent coffee, I need to go to Costa or Nero, immigrants who are proud of what they do. My son lives in Taiwan and my daughter in South Africa and when the time comes I will be on the first plane to South Africa. I really enjoy your life you share and please keep up the good work. I think you have a peace of paradise. 😊

I wonder if foreigners are welcome in that town. I live in Sweden married to a Swede, but we both find people in Sweden very cold and xenophobique, sorry that's a reality. If you want to have friends you can't wait a 1000 years. They usually have their "true" friends when they are at school/university. Cambridge might not be a place foreigners/elderly, we used to have friends near cambridge. We live in 3 other cities in England including London and it was not that bad at the time but we were not your age. In general the elderly in Europe (including England and Sweden) are not taken care of unlike other warmer cultures do. All the best to you.

Also a Minnesota raised and of Swedish heritage person, I love 💕 watching you, Kalle, and Christine living in Northern Sweden. My Farfar is from this northern area somewhere and it’s no surprise to me at all that he choose to settle in Northeastern Minnesota as it resembles Northern Sweden in many ways. I grew up on the original homestead as a second generation American. I like to feel like I’m finally home. 😊

@@Eaglebrace Minnesota was home to many Swedish immigrant settlements during the latter half of the 19th century. The landscape and climate reminded them of home, I was told. My great-grandfather came at the age of 18 and was a lumberman near Stillwater, MN. He met my great-grandmother there, who was also an immigrant. They took advantage of the Homestead Act and established their own successful farm, which remained in the family for 75 years. They belonged to a Swedish Lutheran Church in their community, where the sermons were preached in Swedish up until 1945. I look forward to visiting Sweden and the places where my forebears called home before they came to America. My father's side were Norwegian, so I plan to go there, too.

My grandfather and his brother moved from northern Sweden in the mid-1920s, along with their uncle Gustav. Grandpa Bror settled in the Chicago area, Uncle Philip moved to one of the Carolinas, but Uncle Gus settled near Minneapolis after moving back and forth between Chicago and Alaska for a few decades before and after the war. In my family photos I’ve inherited, I have a great one where Gus wrote on the back “What I did on my 55th birthday,” and it was a terrific photo of him ski-jumping in Alaska! I never met Uncle Philip since he died the year I was born, but I was fortunate enough to have met Uncle Gus once when we spent our summer vacation in MI, WI, and MN. He was a really cool elderly man who stayed up until 4 am playing pinochle and then got up on Sunday morning to watch old-school pro wrestling. Both he and Grandpa had lovely Swedish lilts in their voices. I especially remember Grandpa’s and how he would call me his “little sweetheart.”

Before moving to Alaska, I wanted to move to northern Sweden. This video made me remember some of the reasons why; to be honest, ALL your videos do that (eventhough i love Alaska). I love small towns. Anchorage is too big for me, eventhough it is unlike cities in lower 48. But I would love it if you did a grocery tour video and showed how much it cost for items you both buy. Food prices are going up everywhere, and I am curious to know if inflation has hit your area. Housing prices are certainly so much better there! 😊 🌲 🇸🇪

One of the things that my wife and I were struck by when we visited Sweden a few years ago was how the town was interwoven into, and a part of, the nature. I’ve never experienced this anywhere else. Also, the alcohol stores had such limited hours that were right in the middle of the day, that we never could get any wine because we were always out exploring and hiking! It was interesting to see how different that was compared to the US.

My Grandma is born and raised in Sollefteå, I've been very interested in the town going there a few times by myself to look at her old house and stuff. A few weeks she and my grandpa went there, and when she came home she said "I'm never going back", she felt like the city was dead since the main street was empty of people, didn't have any outdoor servings left, and so on. It broke my heart, since I know how much she loves this little town. She wrote a small book about her early life and what it was like to grow up in Sollefteå in the 40s-50s, she wrote about everything from when they "built" the ski slope, that they had to stomp the snow themselves to be able to ski, to her and her friend riding their "spark" under the train bar at full speed when a train was coming in. It's such fun reading and I'll make sure to visit Sollefteå even more for my grandma, and stay at the camping or Hallstaberget.

The clean fresh air, lakes, pine trees, birches, the food, rainy days. I guess everything, but going in to town Sollefteå was the highlights of the year! Ok, sign me up! what a beautiful place, there seems to be so much peace and tranquillity. Glad you and Christine have a lovely town to go to with all the essential amenities and be able to socialise without feeling too overwhelmed by everything. As you said, it is important to have some balance in our lives and Solleftea seems to be the place to offer that balance.

I was born in Sollefteå and was raised in the High Coast. Then in the early 00’s I moved out. Now we have moved back home and actually moved to Sollefteå. Just lovely!

You showed so well in this video how life is all about balance. Having the possibility to live in the middle of nature while being able to take a quick trip into town. Such a nice place you chose as your home.❤️❤️ And such a nice collaboration - felt a bit like a love letter to your chosen home.😊 We moved to Sweden this year and we always felt so welcome here, so we could very much relate to your video. Can't wait for the next one.

Congrats on that move! Whereabouts did you move to, and from where? We're hoping to move from The Netherlands to the north ourselves next year. I'm very much looking forward to it, just a bit nervous about all the bureaucratic stuff with migrationsverket...

Super video Kalle! Many thanks for following up on the requests to show more about where you live. The video was very enlightening. Was striking to me how clean and attractive the town is -- no litter or garbage, big signs, or huge parking lots/lots of pavement. Very appealing. Yes, I would enjoy a video about the food you buy, including costs. Perhaps also note if food is taxed, and if so, how much. Would be interesting to know where the food comes from -- local area or elsewhere from Sweden versus imported. Many thanks Kalle. Kudos to you and the local government and your pal gym owner for their fine contributions.

Wow! / Adrian

I found this to be a very fun, genuine and sweet video. I grew up in the Dutch countryside - population density in these farmlands is still around 400 people per square kilometer, as opposed to 900-ish for Sollefteå in the actual town. Sollefteå kommun as a whole is around 3-ish people per square kilometer, for reference! Anyways, where we lived was middle-of-nowhere by Dutch standards, and I do recognize many of these nice things. Knowing the people that drive by, actually knowing the store employees, having a baker that you talk to twice a week. Saying hi to people in the streets. Living in the city, I frankly feel almost uncomfortable with the thought of that last one now, but it's so much nicer to feel welcome. The Netherlands is too busy for our tastes, though , even in "the middle of nowhere". Because of that, my partner and I are planning to move to Northern Sweden next year, though we are more tempted towards the more rugged landscapes of the Norwegian border if we have the choice, but you make a good case for Sollefteå! Hopefully we'll get all these lovely country-side things back in our lives and get to have more meaningful connection with the world, nature and people around us!

Oh wow! I´m really happy that YT introduced me to your great video! This is a great video, thank you Kalle! Sweden has been the dream country of mine and my friends since 25 years, we spent lots of holidays around sweden, mostly dreaming of moving to sweden some day. And now I´ve been living in the countryside of Northern Germany near the town Wacken which hosts the famous heavy metal festival once a year. We had a wooden Swedish House built, painted in Falun Red, with white windows etc. Our little "Sweden-Paradis". Besides the festival it is really cosy around here, too. Everybody saying hi to each other in our village. Lots of fields, small woods and a swamp that is partially a nature reserve. Hamburg is about an hour away, so there are quite some folks commuting to work from here. All in all our village and neighbouring Wacken is great to live in, but compared to the vast nature and remoteness of Swedens countryside it is of course quite crowded. I really love that remoteness in sweden, the vast woods, all these lakes and of course the Allemansretten. The snow in wintertime in northern sweden! That is so precious! In northern Germany we get really little snow, not even every year. You made me dream of sweden again, Kalle! I haven´t been north of Stockholm so far, but I definitly will! Spending a winter holiday with our Husky Mix, learning to go crosscountry skiing would be great! Our son applied for Umea university, if he gets a place there, we will definitely come and visit solleleftea. Again, thanks a lot Kalle!
