Maybe UK is not the best example for it, since your system is not in a great shape in the recent years (as far as I know)... But there is a lots of great examples about it across Europe.
@alistersutherland36885 ай бұрын
Same here in Canada. I'm from the UK, and I've lived in the US. I have family there. Our system -as with the NHS - is under serious strain. But that's because of deliberate underfunding and neglect by successive governments. Though I think it's been particularly pernicious over 14 years of Tory rule in the UK. Conservatives everywhere seek to starve and break any and all social programs. The benefits of a healthy, well educated society is not their priority. They are motivated strictly by self interest and prefer a system that subjugates most people for the benefit of the few, as long as they are part of the few. And the most important thing from their perspective is to consolidate their positions so as to ensure that remains the case.

As a foreigner I cannot grasp why people are elected for a spot like district attorney. It sounds wrong to me that people must campaign and run for that function (or even for judge). The executive and legislative branches are supposed to be accessible via elections, but judicial functions? District attorney, prosecutor? Madness
@AevenDaan5 ай бұрын
I agree with you. In Dutch we have a concept we've termed the "rechtstaat" which is considered to be a sort of fundamental state of being for our society possibly best compared with the phrase "a nation of laws" if it must be translated into English. Essentially it means the state is itself bound by law and legal rights and justice are not (supposed to be) subject to political whims and arbitrary despotism. It's why our courts and judges are not politically appointed and even the public prosecutors are nominally independent from politics and government. I could sort of understand the appeal of elected public prosecutors in the sense that the people might be deciding what they feel is important to pursue or if they want to show trust in the competence of the prosecutor. But elected judges seems absurd, especially when they campaign on ideology and values. Generally the law should be their only measure. That being said, I live in one of the many countries that has a codified legal code, and the USA has a hybrid system heavily leaning towards common law which places defining what justice is almost completely with the judge.

There’s nothing wrong with changing your mind. If policy makers changed their mind based on the body of evidence and public opinion more often, our country would be better for it. I hope our generation becomes the generation that finally does away with the narrative that changing your mind is “flip flopping”, and that flip flopping is bad thing. Flip flopping based on where the body evidence currently sits is a good thing. I wish every politician flip flopped more often. If they did, government policy wouldn’t be so far behind public opinion on basically every issue. Policy lags behind shifting public opinion and leads to issues where there is a large consensus being completely irrelevant to government policy on those issues for like two decades before policy actually changes to meet the consensus of experts and the consensus of the public.

She always raves about her career as a prosecutor or attorney in CA but as pro-Far Left , she believes in the rights of criminals so criminals can be released easily; crime goes up with no consequences for criminals and at the same time there are "no" police to defend citizens as she favors defunding police (funds rerouted elsewhere). She wanted open borders so she didn’t want to go to the border to see reality and not even respect the Texas patrols working so hard to control the area. She didn’t care about her fellow American workers. Does Kamala ever tell her supporters that these illegally entering immigrants have priority in their housing, food, healthcare, etc.? US citizens are not a priority! These recent immigrants will be supported by our hard earned dollars (all kinds of taxes on us) but everything will be free for them. Kamala paints a flowery image for us like we'll have a better life (housing, work/pay, Medicare, food, gasoline, etc.) after she becomes President but she is only fooling her supporters because they are not thinking sensibly or seriously and not questioning her. Their life or their parents life will not be better, just like it is now but worse when we actually see where we are taken.
