Timeline - World History Documentaries

5 жыл бұрын

In the far-flung reaches of Siberian Russia there’s a place unlike any other on earth. A place nine times zones from Moscow. A place so far east it’s almost west. A place called Kamchatka, the snowbound Eden. One hundred thousand lakes; 300 geysers; 414 glaciers; 100 volcanoes all crammed into a peninsula the size of California. But it’s also a nuclear no-go zone. Off-limits to the world for most of the 20th century. In fact, more Americans have been into outer space than have crossed Kamchatka in the last hundred years. It’s into this unforgiving icebox cold corner of the world that David Adams goes in search of the last of the Itelman, the semi-legendary wild men of Siberia’s Far East.

David Adams and the Camera Crew are to be commended and recognized as Outstanding Photo Journalists with their Video Production Skills. They put all the necessary passports in order and worked out the details of guides and contacts to produce make this complicated Documentary a reality. He was willing to eat Raw Meat to be a good Guest and Honor the Hospitality of the Native Siberian People. The Narration was excellent and helped to add value to this production.

Very good documentary. I visited Kamchatka in 2000 and enjoyed that trip very much. I met many new friends and everyone was very friendly toward me. I tested out some of my Navajo Native Words on a senior citizen in Esso however failed to hear any words that were similar. I found some fresh watermelons for in PK at the local public market center. They were rather expensive however I wanted my friends and some of the children to taste their first one. So everyone really enjoyed them and it was a special event. I am still good friends with some of the people I met on that trip. I really am thankful that I was able to visit Kamchatka it is such a unique place to visit. Thank you for sharing your video from me over here at Roswell NM USA..

Might have better luck in central Siberia where the Ket tribe live, if you could get there (aside from current politics it is one of the most remote places in Siberia). They are the last speakers of Yeniseian languages (the Siberian branch of the Dene-Yeniseian language family to which Navajo belongs).

Kamchatka now has a thriving tourist industry. It's been my most wanted destination for around 20 years. Many Russians who cannot fly outside of the country due to the pandemic have been flying from Vladivostok to Kamchatka instead. The nuclear testing wasn't cool, but we also did the same in other parts of the world displacing thousands from their islands forever.

I am forever grateful for your documentary informing me of the existence of the Edelman tribe in particular. There is much more here than is seen; efforts in Russia and in North America indicate these last surviving tribes must have something to be greatly feared by those who would control others. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I always enjoy your films.

For those of you who are interested how Kamchatka is living today (20 years after this documentary was made) you can search on KZbin "Dud Kamchatka". It's a documentary made by popular Russian presenter. Film is in Russian, but there are english subtitles available. David Adams tries to find aboriginal tribes of Kamchatka which are on the verge of extinction and highlights his narrative on their life. This is a very interesting approach and reminds films of Werner Herzog in this sense. However, this group is too small to make assumptions about the whole region based on their life. So, if you're interested in another perspective on the subject, this Russian documentary discusses the living of the majority of people on the peninsula and the role of the Kamchatka peninsula itself in the modern day Russia. Moreover, part of this video shows Russians surfing in Kamchatka. Being an Aussie, David Adams would appreciated them. :)
