+MusicMakesYouBraver listen to the haunting feat Simon Simone .. then tell me if u still think they are not underrated..
@Sorcerouss8 жыл бұрын
banjoleb I've listened to it, many times, and Roy is a fabulous singer - One Cold Winter's Night performance of it with Simone is one of my favourite things. The thing is, Kamelot is fairly well known. They're STILL touring for Haven, and even just played in Japan, which means the demand is there. They are not underrated.

That would be Overrated, where the hype is greater than the band, and Kamelot has, thankfully, not ever been that.

I've seen Kamelot live in concert close thanks to going to school in Tampa where they are from. One of the best power metal bands, Kahn has a god tier voice.

I listen to Kamelot since i was 14. I'm 31 now. I have listened to this song time and time again, it's actually my favourite song from them. I always felt a bit sad listening to this song, as i thought it was a song about love that could not be fulfilled, or even, love that was denied from external factors like Romeo and Julliet. Listening to this again after some years i realise that it has a entirely different meaning: The singer aka the man in this relationship seems to be really paternalistic with "Helena", with the "don't ask why" and finding sloppy excuses for him to leave the relationship. We only find the motives for the breakup at the end of the song with these 2 lines. "Love means nothing to me, if there's a higher place to be" and "My tale has just begun. Nothing can take my faith away in my quest for the sun!" What i take away from this, is that the guy seems eager and delusional about his quest to ascend... i don't know if professionally, spiritually, or otherwise. Regardless, this song seems to parody this kind of behaviour; people being emotionally dysfunctional, creating suffering and leaving perfectly healthy relationships, just because the grass may be greener elsewhere.

It was an adaptation of Faust. Loose adaptation anyway. Ariel and Helena are proper lovers unlike the original Faust and Gretchen. Ariel leaves Helena to find answers for his research, and later crosses paths with Mephistopheles. Ariel gets power and knowledge in exchange for his soul. Helena manages to find Ariel shortly after his deal with Mephisto. This song picks up some time after Ariel and Helena reunite. Your take away is correct, but still keep in mind the context of the story the song tells about.

I love this song but the thing that always gets on my nerves is when people add lyrics but the next set of lyrics always pop up after the singer has already started. The timing is off making it hard to sing along until you have listened and heard it many times before pretty much memorizing it. Good thing this song is worth listening to for all eternity.

Unfortunately, Khan is out of the band atm due to unspecified illness. Hopefully he comes back healthy, and to kamelot. Also idk about anyone else, but karma and epica were amazing, but while black halo and ghost opera had some good tracks they left me wanting, and I never got into PftP.

These guys have been my idols for years. The band has a unique sound that i havn't heard anywhere and starts from Thomas Youngblood's riffs to Tommy's or Khan's voice. I actually found one band that i think all symphonic heavy metal fans should check out. They are called Ascendia and they kick ass just like these guys. Here is there single they just released kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3KtpmOAesatrZo

hey guys, thanks for having this conversation, it got me to into listening to the band and boy, what a great singer!!!!! the rest of the band was okay to me, but to my grief, I found them pretty standard... the singer, on the other hand, is really something else, great, deep, powerful voice, kinda remembered me of the first time I listened to Russel Allen back in the days when they had just released The Odyssey

Kamelot's albums Epica and The Black Halo are concept albums, telling the story of Faust, by Goethe. Some names are changed (Faust is Ariel in these albums for example), but it's essentially the same. Helena is Helena from Goethe's story. Google it :P
Wolgang von Goethe sometimes is called the last Homer, I loved to read the book "conversation with Goethe" by Eckermann (i suggest it a lot) Ariel (Faust) Helena (Margarite) and Mephisto are the main characters of Goethe's masterpiece. In Fact if you read the book you'll get more cautivated by Kamelot's Epica. Mephisto shows splendour, vanity and power to Ariel (Faust) Like A Feast For the Vain where mephisto says "vanity we celebrate my favorite of sins..." I think Khan is an awesome mephisto

Regarding its etymology, it began as a skater term when an announcer said someone had to be sick (mentally in this case) to try a difficult stunt that paid off and looked good. It caught on since then. I don't like it either. Whenever I read it, I realized its being used as a compliment, but always picture chemo-patients or something along those lines.
