Año 2005. La nueva Xbox 360 sale al mercado y un nuevo juego (dos, en realidad) de Rare acompaña a la nueva consola de Microsoft. Para el que escribe, Rare siempre ha sido una compañía muy especial, ya que había crecido con clásicos como GoldenEye o Banjo-Kazooie en Nintendo 64, entre muchos otros. Así pues, siendo tan fan de la compañía inglesa, la noticia de que Rare iba a lanzar un juego para la nueva y potente Xbox 360 fue recibida por mi como agua de mayo. Así pues, hoy quiero que me acompañes por el camino de los recuerdos mientras echamos la vista atrás con Kameo: Elements of Power. Lo primero que hay que decir de Kameo es que tuvo un desarrollo, cuanto menos, complicado. Durante su desarrollo, el proyecto pasó por cuatro consolas diferentes: la Nintendo 64, Gamecube, luego la Xbox original y finalmente fue concebido como título de lanzamiento junto a la añorada Xbox 360. La trama argumental de Kameo comienza con una elfa que deberá que viajar por el mundo para recuperar sus poderes elementales y así poder rescatar a su familia de su hermana malvada, Kalus, y del rey troll Thorn. El nivel tutorial/introductorio es sumamente interesante, ya que en él Kameo tiene acceso a tres de sus poderes elementales, pero al final del nivel ocurrirá algo que nos obligará a hacernos más fuertes y a volver a recuperar todos nuestros poderes. La forma en que los poderes elementales fueron implementados es sin duda el aspecto más positivo de todo el título. En lugar de tener criaturas bajo nuestro control (lo que parece que fue el plan desde el principio, convirtiendo el juego en una experiencia casi similar a la de Pokemon en sus inicios), Kameo puede en cambio transformarse en las criaturas, ya sea un monstruo que es capaz de escupir fuego y puede encender antorchas, o una especie de planta boxeadora que puede golpear a los enemigos. En total, Kameo tiene cinco poderes distintos para elegir, que son fuego, planta, roca, hielo y agua, y puede utilizar dos formas diferentes de cada poder, lo que hace que haya diez “Guerreros Elementales” en total. Cada uno de los poderes se encuentra o se activa justo a tiempo para que sea útil, así que aunque el juego tiene algunos puzzles, la mayoría de las veces sólo tienes que preocuparte de pensar en qué poder conseguiste el último y utilizarlo para progresar. El combate en Kameo era algo que quizá no estaba al nivel del conjunto, pero esta mecánica ofrecía un interesante giro que era nada más y nada menos que poder ralentizar el tiempo. A medida que Kameo iba dando sucesivos golpes (o más bien, como lo hacía uno de sus alter egos), se llenaba un medidor en pantalla con el que podíamos ralentizar el tiempo, haciendo que el combate adquiriera una nueva capa de profundidad. Cada nivel seguía un plan similar, con una sala llena de enemigos a los que patear el trasero y una “Bestia de las Sombras” (el jefe del nivel) a la que encontrar y derrotar, normalmente recompensándonos con un nuevo poder para usar. Otra de las cosas por las que muchos nos compramos Kameo fue por su apartado gráfico. Con el lanzamiento de una nueva generación de hardware, todos los jugadores estábamos ansiosos por tener algo que llevarnos a la boca para poder comprobar la potencia de nuestras nuevas consolas. Y esto Kameo lo hacía muy bien. El mundo del juego era colorido y vibrante, e incluso cuando volví a jugar el juego hace apenas 1 año, si no recuerdo mal, este seguía teniendo un aspecto asombroso, con detalles gráficos muy interesantes y muchos enemigos con los que luchar. El apartado sonoro también es un elemento que debemos destacar, ya que Rare es una compañía que siempre ha cuidado con mucho mimo este apartado. Un montón de sonidos diferentes que nos ayudan a meternos en la ambientación del título, una banda sonora que acompaña con grandes partituras y un doblaje al castellano de los que añoramos a día de hoy. A medida que Kameo cumplía meses se lanzaron algunos contenidos descargables extra. Afortunadamente, Rare tuvo mucha clase y prometió antes del lanzamiento que añadiría un modo cooperativo gratis, cosa que cumplieron. Otros packs de DLC incluían nuevos disfraces y también el Kameo Power Pack que, además de las tablas de clasificación, ofrecía a los jugadores nuevos logros para conseguir. Sin embargo, la mayor sorpresa fue la incorporación de nuevos modos de juego. El Time Attack permitía a los jugadores que jugaran en modo cooperativo intentar terminar los niveles lo más rápido posible y Rune Battle daba la opción a dos jugadores de ir recogiendo tantos objetos como fuera posible. Kameo: Elements of Power fue relanzado en el año 2015 junto con el fantástico recopilatorio de Rare Replay, incluyendo todo el contenido posterior. Incluso si tienes una partida guardada en la nube de la versión de Xbox 360 puedes importarla sin problemas a tu Xbox One o Xbox Series. Actualmente el juego está disponible en gloriosos 4K, así que si aún no lo habéis probado, ya estáis tardando. Puede que os sorprenda saber (como a mí) que se planeó una secuela que fue cancelada hace un par de años. Una pena, ya que habría sido un gran añadido para el catálogo de Xbox One. Ohh dang I think this was it! I remembered playing a demo of a game when I was a kid and here I thought it was a dream of sorts, because it reminded me of nights, but this was it, this was the game demo I played long while back, dang it’s been forever, least I think so, was similar, man if I could go back in time to look at my young selfs eyes I would remember better but I think this was it, oh this is very cool, I have to find this title sometime
