I thought the crusades started because Pope Urban II answered the call for help from the Emperor of the Byzantine (Eastern Roman) Empire? Seljuk Turks and Muslim conquests were finally becoming a major major issue. I mean Muslims conquered the entirety of modern day Spain and Portugal in the 8th century. I still got a lot out of this video but man that beginning was tough to watch.
