Let me talk about this soldier in the Picture, he deserves to be mentioned. Kiyoshi Ogawa was born in 1922 in the Gunma Prefecture in Japan. He studied at the prestigious Waseda University and became a student-soldier, gakuto, after graduation. He was trained as a pilot and was assigned to the 306th Fighter Squadron of the 721st Kokutai with the rank of ensign in the Japanese Navy. Near the end of the war, he volunteered to be a Special Attack Force pilot. On 11 May 1945, American carrier Bunker Hill operated as a part of Task Group 58.3, 122km to the east of Okinawa, and was struck by the large-scale kamikaze attack dubbed Operation Kikusui Number 6, which Ogawa took part of. At 1004, Marine pilot Captain James E. Swett reported two Japanese fighters approaching; one of them was piloted by Ogawa. The unknown pilot struck first, releasing his 250 kg bomb which tore through the entire ship and exploded in the sea below, then the aircraft struck and destroyed most of the armed and fueled American aircraft on the flight deck. Ogawa dove next. His 250 kg bomb ignited aviation fuel, and then the aircraft dove into the flight deck near the control tower. Ogawa died at 10:05 that morning. The two attacks killed 373 American servicemen and caused serious damage to the carrier that placed her out of commission for the remainder of the war. Ogawa's aircraft was not destroyed. Bunker Hill's sailors found a letter Ogawa wrote on him. It said "I will make a sortie, flying over those calm clouds in a peaceful emotion. I can think about neither life nor death. A man should die once, and no day is more honorable than today to dedicate myself for the eternal cause.... I will go to the front smiling. On the day of the sortie too, and forever."

Just as the saying goes, the winner gets to decide what happens, yea America likes to hide a lot of the bad stuff they have done. I'm American myself and hate all the people around me saying that America is best without even know the atrocities we have committed. Try to learn before you type a bit pal as a piece of advice, America is only great because it has done far worse things than most countries have, just like how every large/powerful nation has gained its power

@@Afrancis16 one hypercritical question... when America gets hit by a nuke.. what would you say? because America also never got any punishment for committing a genocide on the Indigenous population that used to own the land. I know thats probably not the best example but my point is, no matter if u conquered the land and or u did bad things.. that fact alone doesn't give u the right to nuke a country twice.. especially if u not even trying to destroy military structures but instead target the most populated citys by civilians. U can turn it the way u like but America simply wanted a "test subject" for their new weapon..

Dear Mother and Father, Brother and Sister, End of autumn. The backyard must be filled with the cries of insects, as it is every year around this time. My heart is full to bursting with memories of the many evenings we spent talking together. I suppose you are all somewhat concerned about how I’m doing. During my visit home in May, Sister said to me, “Ever since you joined up, Mother has been setting meals before your photograph. She’s given up drinking tea, and every evening she visits the shrine to pray for you.” I was so moved that I was unable to thank her. Mother really wore herself out at the farewell party the night before I left to join my unit. She was so busy preparing for my departure that she didn’t sleep at all the night before. And on my sun flag, she wrote HAPPILY WAITING FOR A RETURNING CHILD. Whenever I can, I gaze at those four noble characters for the nourishment they give my soul. The fighting has become extremely intense, and there is no guarantee of my safe return. The image of all those poor school kids and everyone else singing war songs and waving a sea of flags as they saw us off to the front is burned indelibly into my mind. I firmly believe in the benevolence of the Emperor and of our parents. Mother seems to be growing weaker by the day. Brother and Sister, you will have to give her the love that I cannot. Please forgive my impiety; I pray for the continued good health of you all. The three photo albums I sent the other day are keepsakes for Brother and Sister. Please don’t worry about me. When you hear of my death, be happy for me, for I will have achieved my ambition. Goodbye Lieutenant Kishi Fumikazu to his family Killed in the Philippines on 24 October 1944 at age 22.

Why do you think people think that? Only because that's what Japan's been becoming since the end of the war. Every day, Japanese step further away from the spirit from which these displays of valorant character were born. That's the meaning of all these Japanese nationalists, people outraged at the stupefication of their folk, forgetting what self-denial, selflessness, and sacrifice made such a great nation. Now Japan is rotting and decaying like any other Westen nation and sinking slowly into immorality. Well, I prefer not to think on such doomsday terms, but undoubtedly that's where I see Japan's future, at least as of now.

My great grandfather worked for Japanese Administration during their occupation of Malaya as he believed Malaya would gain independence with the help of Japan. He was later to be hanged at Changi Prison, Singapore after British came back following Japanese defeat. Fortunately, under few circumstances his life was saved. He was never the same man after that nevertheless. Long live Japan and Imperial Japanese Army. From Malaysia.

I have a distant relative who was stationed in Pearl Harbor but was fortunate enough to survive the attack. When I was a teenager, I was privileged to hear a lecture by a kamikaze pilot who miraculously survived. He spoke at length, albeit in a very thick accent, about the measures they took to brainwash him into that willingness to throw away his life. It wasn't filmed and KZbin didn't exist. Thank you for preserving this bit of wartime propaganda. It's so easy to forget that the suicide pilots weren't born to be weapons, they were just made that way.
