3 days temple remains closed, even goddess is given rest! 4th day temple opens and goddess is given bath and rituals performed, then people take darshan. It is in that sense, not an untouchable that cultures asked women to stay away. It was misinterpreted by misogynists.

One tips for who are coming to Assam for Kamakhya Darshan, after darshan you can go one more very special powerful temple very much unexplored temple called Maha Mrityunjay Temple (world's tallest shivling) i.e located in Nagaon(Assam's 2nd largest city) 120 km/2 hr away from Guwahati . I have been here twice and it is definitely one.of the most powerful temple ever where powerful Divine Vibrations can be experienced by those who have faith. The chengannur temple in Kerala, is where the Goddess,gets her periods. The time is unpredictable and the cloth covering the devi is checked daily. The frequency of the menstrual cycle is becoming less with time. It is a proper Shakti temple,with the Shiva temple in the forefront.
