Good work Simon! And thanks for posting the situation report, no way we would ever get these details from media. We can not expect volunteer SAR teams to operate at your level of competency but we should expect them to recognize a valuable local resource when presented with it.

Good on you, Simon. Stay true to your instincts. No amount of training or team building on their part can amount to the experience and instinct that you have built over many years. Stay true to what's in your heart, keep sharing your voice, and don't ever let anyone tell you your gut is wrong. Keep living outside the box. 💪✌️

As others mentioned the news reporting seemed off...typical now I guess, thanks for posting your part. You have a lot of experience in hiking there and certainly know it visually! Looks like ego expertise got in the way on the part of rescue, glad the fellow is on the mend!

Omg I thought of you immediately. I’m so glad you’re safe, Simon, and so happy you were able to assist the injured paraglider. You were definitely someone’s hero that night.

Wow this story is hard to read. It sounds like there are proud people involved who are having trouble getting help from unknown people. Absolutely miscast it sounds like. I am already frustrated reading this and don't want to know what it was like for you. The last sentence is nasty and I hope the people in charge have or had to make a reflective statement. Thank you for your dedication, your help and your honesty.

Thank you for sharing that, I was very concerned about hypothermia for the glider, and if he was completely alone, glad someone was with him. I was very confused when I read about someone being arrested? WTF, it did not make sense. Now I understand, you are the hero, and was only trying to help, it sounds like egos of the SAR team got in the way. When you talk to Quintin again please let him know how concerned we all are, from the Rosewood area, we watched it unfold. Thank the creator he is going to be alright, and you were not injured in your assisting him. Again Thank you

I did think of you when I heard about this incident! I was out in my yard and watched the helicopter land early in the evening. When I went to bed later about 11 pm, I was surprised to see the helicopter still on Mt Paul.

Glad you are ok brother, and that Quinton is doing well. Sounds like Sar is drowned in bureaucracy like any other government entity. Hopefully the charge is dropped. Kudos to you for putting yourself out there, you're a good dude with a big heart.

No mention of trespassing or being on private land 🤔 . Can you get a permit to launch from that location? Hope the injured party has a speedy recovery .

Saw a "Castanet" on this this am. No good deed goes unpunished, eh? SAR is all about covering their @$$#$ as much as legally possible: not taking any more risk than they are comfortable doing. Many SAR teams have so many new green members, they can't afford to have their own members hurt (that'd look really bad...) Thanks for the update. Keep us posted. Cheers!

asksteevs, I agree. I also was hoping there was another paragraph. What happened after you were arrested?

Bizarre situation it sounds like. I feel like there should be another paragraph. What happened after you were arrested? Is it known in what manner the pilot went down?

We got you Simon. While I respect the knowledge of rescuers, I respect more the knowledge of a pilot who's used to the area and knows about paragliding much more than the average uniformed volunteer. I'm tired of seing the same situation in which a failed rescue or a late intervention becomes another tragic head title in the news just because we practice a sport different from jogging.

Doing the right thing on any level in this messed up world is now considered the wrong thing. No surprise. Well Done on accomplishing 90% of the rescue alone!

When I read the initial news story it was so vague and reeked of media BS I knew there was something fishy and immediately thought of you and if you were involved somehow. Sounds like SAR doesn't like hearing suggestions from someone more knowledgeable. "...the competency level was low and time was being wasted." Seems to sum it up pretty well.

Personally I think you would of done the lad a favour in burning that glider! I was expecting to know what happened with the Glider. glider malfunction or pilot error? Now a more safer kite is a Hang Glider and much more exciting and another little glider is the Goat but with the goat you need to build it. If this is not possible contact me for pricing! Now if you want a slower glider look into the Bloop glider out of California.
