We thought for sure this baby lizard was a goner but the story unfolded into a truly beautiful and uplifting story of survival! One of the biggest things I appreciate about Kamp Kenan is how he shows us the day-to-day good things happening with his animals, like getting a good feeding or upgrading their enclosures. He also shows us so that we can learn from his struggles with the animals to ensure they survive. Hopefully, this new member of Kamp Kenan will pull through and start getting stronger on its own.

From experience saving sick/injured reptiles is no easy task. I was once given a young Ornate Box Turtle suffering from malnourishment, dehydration and a systemic infection. Tube feeding and antibiotic injections every other day using alternating legs as the injection site over a six week period saved her from an otherwise inevitable fate. I’ve also had to nebulize reptiles with respiratory infections which usually only become apparent in the final stages (as a defense mechanism. in nature.) That baby iguana would’ve been toast in the wild, kudos to Kenin! 👏🏻 👍🏻

That kinda reminds of what happened with Lumpy the oldest male Sulcata 🐢.he didn't have infection however, it happens with many turtles getting up in years(like 10-30 years old, not half a century yet however..) sometimes the gut intestinal system stops working alTogether and the animal has no Inhibition to eat or poop, and what Kenan had to do was get a surgical tube,long, thick & wide enough to go down Lumpy's chest cavity into his stomach. Sounds very unpleasant, and I'm sure for months Lumpy was in a lot of discomfort but he needed antibiotics to kick start his stomach, protect him from adverse infections while keeping his body at maximum functions .. There's at least 5 videos of Kenan giving Lumpy nutritional injections, pouring Saline solution in to the tubing after each injection(I was just notified 🤢 cause I can only imagine what Lumpy felt like crap getting forced fed) I have a playlist on my channel of all the videos just from what happened from start to finish with Lumpy: if you ever experience that white stuff on the outside of the turtle 🐢. shell it's Superficial fungus and you need to do get some "Silver Sulfadide" medication cream from a pharmacy: Walmart, Kroger's, Albertsons, Publics, most of those stores can either order or get an over the counter version. Ammonium Lactate also works for skin fungus infections on turtles, reptiles, mammals, birds and of course humans: just be sure to check the skin texture if the fungus gives off an odor or smell, or looks like it's not healing. Also clean the area, pat it dry before reapplying/applying the mediciation

@@jebVlogs556 It was a systemic infection and she was small (under a year old) and in very bad shape. My vet would give me two weeks worth of syringes filled with antibiotics at a time to keep expenses down (he was aware I knew how to inject her.) i was amazed she survived although I knew she was rallying when she began accepting food on her own after about a month of tube feeding. You really must be careful not to aspirate sick animals. I’ve used Silver sulfadiazine (Silvadene) on both my reptiles and myself for certain topical infections, it works amazingly well. Would recommend 💯

I visit this channel because it is real, the good the bad and the ugly so to speak. You don"t shy away from tragedy when it happens, and if you keep animals it is going to happen sometimes. Instead you explain why and educate people. This was hands down and by far my favorite video yet. I'm a grown man and I was choked up when your were cutting that egg, I didn't think there was any hope for that lil guy. I keep beardies, but the rhinos are a bucket list reptile for me, when you peeled that yoke away and I saw he had a little fight in him, I was shouting at the monitor "no you can't put him down, you have to save him" It's amazing he survived, and you are amazing for the love and care you give to your animals. I'll be following his story and rooting for him the whole way. Very good job man!!!

I would suggest the name Tiny Tim. Like the small boy in Charles Dickens' book. He was small and weak, and with the help of others, he didn't die but grew up strong. I loved this video. I rescued a tiny kitten once, and named him Lucky. He was about 3 weeks old, and so covered with mange that he had no fur. We had no idea what color he was supposed to be. He turned out to be jet black! 🙂

You can sometimes save moldy eggs if you catch it early, and sprinkle them with Gold Bond foot powder. I learned this from Emily at Snake Discovery. It gives you about a 50% chance of recovering the eggs.

Hey Kenan!! When you see mold on the eggs do you not put anything on it to kill it?? Emily & Ed from Snake Discovery have been using Lotrimin foot powder (antifungal foot powder, jock itch from Zeasorb) for years. When you see mold starting to develop or come about mold on your eggs you take that powder & sprinkle it on the mold & it works!! I love Matt's reaction, will this be his first reptile he gets?? He is gonna fall in love with that little trooper!! So happy you saved him Kenan!! Is using baby food like using critical care? How is the fam doing, how old are the kids now? Hope all is well with everyone. Any plans on having Tom back on? It was great to see him...been a while!! Anyways Bud, Cheers to you & the Family & have an awesome week!!

Kenan was away, Jerry was minding the eggs.

@@davidvento5481 That changes nothing. Jerry pulled the eggs & put them in the incubater, Kenan was gone few days only. It takes months for rhino eggs to incubate & hatch, mold develops sometime during the months of incubation, Kenan would have noticed it at the beginning stages of the mold & that's when you apply the powder. This has nothing to do with Jerry!!

@@CindyHuot The humidity was too high. They tried a “new kind” of incubator tray about a year ago at Jerry’s where the eggs are elevated above water. I guess Kenan is no longer using that method as he mentioned not being able to find vermiculite.

Mold is a real tricky issue when it comes to reptiles/amphibian eggs. You are really trying to find the goldie locks zone when it comes to getting the temperature and humidity just right. Ive been keeping dart frogs for a while now and sometimes have mold get into the tadpole egg trays. Like you said that's why they have so many in the wild
