Maybe you need to build a new hide for chase and diamond. He's got a LOT of tail to stuff into that little box. We know he CAN, but he may not like to. Maybe that is why he sleeps on top of it. Maybe a hide the width of the back of the cage.

I really do appreciate getting to see the work that goes into outdoor reptile husbandry and keeping a small "zoo" like yours in natural outdoor settings. The practical logistics of having to go out and look to the animals' preparation at short notice, no matter the weather, before storms and weather shifts is one of the bits of "rustic life" that aesthetic vision boards leave out, whether you have a farm of cute little goats or scaley buddies.

Kenan really needs to make a better hide for the Croc Monitors. It should be user-friendly for him to get them to go inside. That way, he doesn't have to go hands-on.
@ThePollaton11 ай бұрын
He also needs to not be afraid of his animals. I love how he is with slinky and inky, the black throats he’s certainly better with. I’m sorry to put a slightly negative comment but animals always know when we have the fear.
@sdqsdq627411 ай бұрын
hmm what about two hides instead , question is what does a tree monitor like his hide to be , high or low , the other one seem to be on the ground , or maybe they dont like to hide at all ,just cling on the trees branch
@Shaden004011 ай бұрын
Canon have you ever thought of building a slightly underground bunker for the Socadas? Something like a reinforced concrete bunker With a sandy bottom that they can dig around in but maybe you know make it like a good 5 feet deep That'll help keep them warm in the winter time so they don't have to just go into a shelter on the ground which God forbid if there's a hurricane can get blown over? something big enough that would allow them to feel comfortable. As well as keep them warm in the winter, with possible heating elements in there.

For the Galapagos, have you ever thought of using the tapping as morse code basically creating a specific rhythm to correlate to a specific task and communication?
@dshobe72011 ай бұрын
Love the flooding. It seems that for the croc monitors you need a hollow strangler fig concept. The warm room would stay open all the time maybe the size of a port-a-potty. Use a skylight or old double pane window on the roof/ceiling. This will give Chase the idea that he has an escape route. Use foam to construct the box and line with vertical sticks inside and out sandwiching the foam sheet between. Paint the foam black before sandwich procedure and seal corners with spray foam and timber tec big thread screws. Feed them in the box every time. Make your next hide box a double shelf with a front panel the whole length of the shelf and leave the ends open so he has an escape route. I think he feels too cornered in the current box. Put a heat mat in the hide box inside the portapotty and a second heat panel behind a slb of wood on the ground. Just some thoughts ❤

I know you are building the new indoor/outdoor enclosure for the black throats, but something like that might be a good fit for the croc monitors. Chase might be more willing to go into a warm room than a warm box.
Again, "Life is less demanding when there is understanding." Want to move a huge tortoise? Use the same method they use on each other. I LOVE these behavior videos.

I feel some bad juju every time you go in the croc monitor enclosures, the enclosures need a rethink on design as you said it your self your going backwards each time you force yourself on them and a 2nd escape door might be a handy feature for those holy shit moments, I would hate to see an incident.
