I watched a fair amount of Efren Reyes tournament games and never saw him try something so stupid in a "crucial moment, championship game or otherwise. . I'm sure Efren spent a lot of time practicing the shot to gain the confidence to shoot it on TV, but there is no way this was a big money shot.

I just simply can't stop wondering, how on Earth Efren even has knowledge of so intricate details of physics behind the ball movements. He simply SEES into the future and knows how will the ball react and behave when hit at a certain speed and where it will end up. Even then he doesn't THINK, he needs no time, he just calls it, aims and boom. Done. He just SEES the shot. Never ever going to understand how he does that. I mean, after all the research people do, after engineering, mathematical calculations, physics, slow motion analysis and even after all that to they can't for sure know what happens before it's played. They simply can't SEE what the outcome will be, no matter how good they are at the table. They can't see a shot in advance, yes you can replicate a shot. Even I can after a certain amount of shots. But only AFTER Efren has done it, and you know it to be possible. But for Efren it's somehow different. He knows it can be done without thinking. He knows the outcome, without trying multiple times. The guy will never stop to amaze me.
@johnocampo33095 жыл бұрын
Vladan Perovic maybe because this is efren’s bread and butter since he was a kid... he has made God knows how many shots and somehow remembers each and every one of it, imagine q kid sleeping on a pool table... wakes up and play pool the entire day play even before sleeping... the passion and dedication he has made in pool makes him who he is righy now... and yes! 1. Great video, love that people on KZbin do this type of thing, and that at least one has the quality that you have! 2. On the spin of the 10 ball. The spin the cue ball gives it COULD be a factor, however I think it is much more likely that the spin that reversed the bank on the 10 is imparted by the first rail it comes into contact with. If you hit a rail at an angle it imparts spin on a ball as if it drags along it, that’s why you can hit a cue ball with no English along a long rail, and it shoots off like it has tons of side when it hits the short. I feel like that’s a much more likely scenario to be why this shot happens than the minuscule spin the cue ball gives it. Thoughts? (From anyone who’s read)

Well, I mean depending on your definition I would say he is already well past being an "average" pool player. In my opinion, an "average" pool player is someone who plays pool as part of a social experience; Going out with some friends, probably watches videos like this in their spare time thinking about how they will approach the table next. An average player knows how to put spin on a ball, and if they're intelligent by nature they understand the basic physics behind the ball's momentum and how to hit a good shot. I would reckon that he sees himself as an average pool player given the level of advancement there is in competitive pool. However, I would say to be an average pool player you need to be within the low 50% or less, skill wise. I would be blown away if I walked into a pool hall and found that 1 in every 2 people there could pull off these shots in such low attempts. I am only a sub par pool player myself, but this guy is better than average for sure.

This is part of "cut induced throw". The cue ball grabs the object ball for a moment and throws it in the opposite direction of the cut, and as part of that it skids along the surface and imparts spin on the ball. This is why it's a bit easier to make severe cuts using outside English as the throw from the English counteracts the cut induced throw.
@pugsnhogz5 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I've always used inside English for long, thin cuts, because I like to aim a bit thick and count on squirt to correct the line. I'll have to try this!

The glancing blow rule is fairly common knowledge for above average players and is the reason it is more difficult to cross bank than to perform a traditional bank. You must accommodate for the object ball taking opposite English and hit it thinner (more angle) than you would on a traditional bank shot. Also, you could add English to the cue ball to change the natural English of the object ball. However, on this particular trick shot, using English makes it much more difficult to duplicate the shot because your cue ball is so far away from the object ball and you’re trying to play the length of the table 4 times. English is less effective the further that distance is, and the English is also less effective when the cue ball is traveling fast. Very cool video, and great explanation!
